Hey there! After weeks of looking, reading, searching the forums here, I''m ready to admit defeat. Or perhaps it''s just information overload. For better or worse
2.gif
I''ve included my girlfriend in my searching for the perfect stone for her. We''ve seen a lot, but most have have been lifeless junk. We thought we had a winner with a 2.53 H&A with a 5ish HCA till we saw what we considered great stones. Girlfriend fell in love with one (2.65GIA). Am I second guessing myself, have we seen what would truly represent a decent stone?

Contenders
Have seen:
AGS0 - 2.36 I SI1 TBL 60.1% TD: 60.7 CA: 33.3 PA: 41.4 8.58-8.62x5.22mm Girdle 1.5% - 3.9% F HCA 4.3(?)
GIA - 2.65 H SI1 Tbl: 58% td: 62.6 CA: 35.0 PA: 40.8 ST: 55% LH: 75% 8.68-8.76x5.46mm Girld STK to VTK F Cut: Good Polish: Ex Sym: VG HCA: 1.9... my girlfriend loves this stone. Ideal-scope isn''t great, but it looks like a great stone, again am I comparing it against bad examples? This stone also seem to not be that much biger than 2.36 AGS stone

Haven''t seen: (Both GIA)
2.52 H SI1 Excellent X 3 TBL: 57% TD: 62% CA: 35 PA: 40.8 Girdle M - STK F 8.65x8.70x5.38 HCA: 1.7
2.50 H SI1 VG EX EX TBL: 57% TD: 60% CA: 33 PA: 41.0 Girdle M F 8.81x8.85x5.30 HCA: 0.6

Thoughts?

Thanks,

j

2nd stone is too deep, girdle too thick, cut is only good (you want excellent).

2.52 H SI1 Excellent X 3 TBL: 57% TD: 62% CA: 35 PA: 40.8 Girdle M - STK F 8.65x8.70x5.38 HCA: 1.7
This one looks like the best of the ones you listed.

Thanks for the help!

I think I had reached the same conclusion with the GIA stone. The first AGS that we had seen was 4k less than the GIA, but size wise just not that much smaller.

Opinions on this one added to the fray?

Thanks again!
