Hello,

I just bought an EGL certified diamond. The diamond is very nice, but I want to make sure the diamond matches the certificate (jeweler - friend of family - bounced around like a ping pong ball). I really like the diamong and, according to the certificate, the diascript is on the girdle. Would I be able to see the diascript and most of the inclusions with a 10X loupe? Or, should I use a 20X loupe?

Thanks for your help.

I can''t answer your question, exactly, but I would take it in and have it appraised. I wouldn''t just trust my eye if I had doubts about the veracity of the seller.

Yes, I''d definitely take it in to an appraiser if it''s an EGL - at least based on what I''ve read around here.

Although if a diascript is the same as an inscription, and I found 20X to be a more helpful assist, I believe a jeweler I took it to could read the numbers with a 10X.

correct me if I''m wrong but i believe that you need a 30x loupe to read inscribed numbers on diamond.

More on the subject, reviewing the challenges of a 30X, among other things. Kassoy used to make a special inscription loupe, dedicated to seeing it, but that catalog page does not seem current.

I read all inscriptions with a 10X loupe, but I am accustomed to doing it. Some consumers seem to prefer 20x or 30x loupes to do this task. Its why we offer all three on the website. You don''t need a special loupe just for inscriptions. It is a matter of having good adjusted vision and a steady hand.
