I have a solitaire w/ simple band, how long will it take to re-size it? and will it involve a lot of work? I am worried that the jeweler might damage it somehow. thanks@

I had mine resized recently (also simple band solitaire), the jeweler quoted me two weeks, but it was done in one. And no problems.

My plain band took no more than 1 week. This should be easy and quick for a resize on a plain band. I take it as long as the sizing is 1/2 to 1 size, there''s very little chance to mess it up. I mean, you aren''t going from size 9 to a size 2, right?

heheh no just half size change. I am just wondering how it is done actually, because I think they will not change the prong part, so they will only adjust the ring part. so will they cut it open and re-weld (is that the right word?) the ring part?

I think that''s exactly what they do-cut a tiny bit out and then weld it together and then I assume they reshape the ring so it''s round. As long as you go to a reputable jeweler and your ring is insured I wouldn''t sweat it!

took them 20-30 minutes to do mine, but it also cost me 90 dollars....what type of metal is it?

It's platinum. Tiffany's is charging me $50, but says it takes 2 weeks!!

A local jeweler here can do a resize in store in half an hour, or in two days, unless it''s a heavy shopping season (Christmas, Mother''s Day, etc.). Last I knew, they charged around $30 or so.

Two weeks sounds like a really long time, unless they don''t have a shop in-store and have to ship it out?

That’s correct. In most cases sizing is a pretty easy job and most shops do it quite a bit. Almost every ring that is sold needs to be resized to fit the final buyer since the manufacturer was just guessing based on what they think the ‘average’ customer looks like. Occasionally the guess turns out to be right and that’s a happy coincidence but since they know this is unlikely they try design things to be sized easily and quickly.

The standard process only takes about half an hour or less to do but most shops are fairly busy places and there are usually other customers in line ahead of you. Also stores will often have a shop offsite and will need to deal with delays from the whole pickup and delivery process. These can add up to requiring anywhere from 30 minutes to week or two depending on the store.

They send ''em all to New York. At least, last time I had a Tiff''s ring resized that''s where it went...from the West Coast.
