I have seen people on here being advised that an indented natural is no big deal. I found this article and wonder what the experts and consumers opinions are upon this. It is saying a diamond could be devalued by 25% because of a natural also, not an indented natural.

Is it just they have an agenda to sell super ideal diamonds or what do you think?

Thanks for the article. I haven't personally seen anyone say that naturals are no big deal. I certainly see where people comment that feathers, pinpoints and needle's are not an issue unless the feather is close to the top of the girdle and it could impair the strenghth of the girldle from a setting standpoint.

Personally, I would not consider a diamond with a natural to the level demonstrated in the article. It would seem and I'm no expert that there are no AGS 000 or GIA Excellent graded stones with such examples of naturals. If the intent of the article is to advise against buying a stone with such a blemish, they probably did their job effectively.

Interesting though. Thanks again....

Your welcome Rod.

I supposed the picture shows how bad it can be with the indented natural. I was not expecting the natural below the girdle to make a diamond 25% less worthy though.

Scare tactics, and incorrect in at least one respect--an indented natural is most certainly considered an inclusion. The example they show is pretty close to a worst-case scenario.

A natural is usually a sign that the cutter made efficient use of the rough. Most do not affect the face-up outline and are not otherwise visible to the naked eye, and are consequently nothing to worry about.

Thanks CaptAubrey. I was thinking it may be agenda but I cannot seem to see anywhere that they sell diamonds except sides stones in ring mounts. Oh and it is the natural it is staing is not considered an inclusion which I believe is correct - not the indented natural.

Is that a feather we see running from the indented natural?
