Ok- I am sure there is some thread about this... but what is better -white gold or patinum????

for earrings, I''d save the money and get WG.

I agree, can''t see any particular reason to get platinum for stud settings. Again, they serve a purpose but are practically invisible. I want my earring settings as light weight (but sturdy) as possible, so I''d choose wg over platinum even if the price was the same.

I''d go with platinum simply because I can''t wear white gold anywhere without getting a rash. If you''re sure you have no allergic reaction and your ears aren''t at all sensitive then i guess white gold would do. But honestly, if the price difference between the gold and platiunum isn''t that much, i''d still choose the platinum.

If I did my math right (and I''ve not had my morning coffee yet): $1000 - $375 = $625 difference. Divide the difference by 365 days and you get $1.71 per day. I''d find something I could give up so I could have exactly the type of earrings I want. Although I couldn''t give up my morning coffee.

WG is generally okay. The one reason I wish I had gotten platinum is that my husband bought a hot tub and I have to take my earrings out every time I get in there because the bromine is bad for WG. I'm just lazy though and wish I could keep them in. With your larger studs, I would get platinum simply because it's a luxury metal that seems fitting to your 2 ctw. stones!

The $1.71 cracked me up because the only reason why I can afford studs is because of the "latte factor"- I gave up my coffee long ago! No more Starbucks. I actually make Foldgers instant with flavored creamer during the week! My BF HATES it!

WF sent me pics of a handmade thinner martini setting they can do for me and it is $425 for 18 WG and $595 for Plat.

The picture shows the front more so not sure how much smaller compared to their original 3 prong vs. LM- but there is no way I am spending $1000 unless that INCLUDES the beautiful jackets!

Now- WG or plat? I don''t have any problems with rash- but is 18 WG too soft? It seems like it is a coin toss for most people.

I''ve had both platinum and white gold stud settings and frankly couldn''t tell any difference between the two since there is so little metal. My current studs are 1.25 carats each and I have them in 18 kt. white gold martini settings. I have worn them daily for a year and a half now with no problems so I would vote for white gold.

No, 18k white gold is quite durable...probably scratches less than platinum as a matter of fact..not that scratches are a common problem on earrings, though!

Oh, and I love the last settings you posted...very pretty!

Yes- I am going with WF thinner ones. That decision is easy. and not LM $1000. Now there are some other possible stones posted in "perfect pair?" thread. G? H?

I'm chiming in a bit late but wanted to say I think you are making a great choice with the WF settings. You won't notice much of a difference on the ears. I'd also go for WG rather than platinum for earrings.

Yes- going for thinner WF martini in WG. THAT was the easiest decision to make!

Now the stones...

Hello Green !

First of all, congratulation for your choice of setting ! Definitely great style and price wise ! I am also fond of LM designs but 1000 for studs settings is really overdoing it IMO.

As for stones, I would invest in ACA stones (especially with stones 1 ct or higher, it is worth the premium) G or H eye clean SI1. If the price difference is not too high between H and G, I would go for G.

Good luck with your search !

I think you made a great decision to go with the WF settings. I doubt there would be that noticeable of a difference in stones this size in the ear and martini settings are already pretty delicate.
