I figured i''d use a new thread, since RB is in the past and no longer a fact. A link for people interested in what happened: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/just-bought-engagement-ring-from-robbins-bros.119016/

Among some of the rings I like is this one:
http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/ring/item_58-1908.asp?a=31&b=317&c=133"

My question is what size of diamond I can get away with in this. It obviously says a huge range is available for this ring, but what should I really do. I guess given no tax and the price scope discount, my budget is around $3k. Would love to not push past $3k.

Questions:
1) Platinum costs a lot more, any reason I should NOT eliminate it?
2) I have traditionally been looking at 5/8 diamonds, but could consider a 3/4, need some thoughts on this..

The most important thing to me is it looking shiny and pretty, but I''m not trying to impress anyone. I just want it to look nice and don''t want to set it with too small of a diamond.

Hi Brian

Is your budget 3k for the whole ring or just for the diamond? Platinum is a very popular metal but it is more expensive, so will eat into your budget more. Personally I have worn some white gold pieces for years without any problems but this is down to personal preference.

Here is a diamond which might suit you, very pretty setting also. You would need to check it is eyeclean to your standards and that the cloud noted is not affecting brilliance, if not then it could be a good choice. If you went with this diamond and the setting you like in plat, you would come in at $13 over 3k.

Personal preference.

Size stones are probably around 6-7 pointers. That gives the stones a diameter of 2.7mm. I think even with a 0.5c, diameter of 5.2mm, it would look great in that setting.
