Hi,
I am having my RB set into a cushion form halo and I'm having problems. My jeweler has done the computer design, everything seems fine except for one problem. When I see the diamond on the computer ( which is blown up I don't know how many times??), and when I look at the diamond from the side view, I see a space close to the girdle and I don't want to have one. He says it's impossible not to have any since I'm using a RB. He also says that adding gold would not be pretty and that when it comes time to see the ring in person, my eye probably won't see the space between the halo and the RB center diamond. Is this true? HELP!!!

can anyone please help?

I'm not any help but my ring is a round in a cushion halo and it fits perfectly. It can be done. There are a number of them here. I'm happy to try and post pictures if it would help.

My diamond was set in a cushion shaped halo. The actual hole for the diamond to sit in was round shaped not cushion... if that makes sense. So there was no gap round the edges.

Thanks for the links:)

And yes, if it's possible, could you show me pics of the top and side from close please? Is there an airline? If not, it is in a bezel setting or is there metal to prevent from seeing the airline?
I hope I'm making sense..:)

hope it helps...

wow, your ring is gorgeous! What size are diamonds in the halo Vs your center?
Thanks, every picture I can see from upclose helps:)

My jewler has this, should I have it too?

Call and ask him to email it to you so you can look at it some more. Then post it. Did you look at the Vatche Grace? I just wondered if that was what you were talking about.

I do not have a gap with my diamond and the halo, I love how mine sits down into the setting instead of sticking up.

The Vatche is beautiful but it has the airline I don't want.
lknvrb4, yours is beautiful! I will share the pics with my jeweler so we can figure out how to make what I want!:)

What I wanted to explain to you is that I have seen the Vatche Grace in person and there is no visible airline at all! When you see highly magnified pictures, it is not the same as what you see in person. The advantage to having a tiny, almost invisible gap is that you'll be able to keep your diamond clean. If your diamond is directly resting on metal all the way around, you are going to have dirt collect in that area and it is going to be harder to clean.

Post CAD pics so we can see what you are talking about...

Yes, cad pics would really help.

heather2012, that's exactly what he means and that I'm trying to avoid. Is there any other way besides having metal around the stone not to have this airline?

The picture Heather posted made it look like the hole for the stone was cushion shaped. In the Vatche Grace, the setting is for a round stone, so you don't have a cushion shaped hole. So those are not showing the same thing. It is not good to jam the diamond up against the sides of the halo itself unless you are doing a bezel, of course. And to have prongs, the stone is just going to have to sit a tiny bit above the halo. I can see the little airline in lknvrb's ring pics. The girdle is just above the level of the halo. But as with the Vatche Grace, you really can't see that in real life.

The giant pics we see here are going to show a lot more gap/air than you would see in real life. That said, you are trying to put a round stone into a semi square hole so there will be a tiny bit of space. Like diamondseeker said, certain designers do an excellent job of setting the stone so you see very little space. I think having the stone sit up slightly above the halo helps and from some examples shown here it can be done in a way that you find acceptable right? I'd just print them out and show them to your jeweler....

That looks like a very pretty setting, but do you plan to wear a wedding band with it? It will have a larger gap than usual because of the way the head of that ring is done.
