Razor bumps solutions?...TMI post

Has anyone ever used something successfully to get rid of bumps from razor burn?

I have 3 red bumps under my arm, where I shave every day (I''m Italian with darkish skin and hair, so if I don''t, it is really noticable). They''ve been there for a WHILE, I mean over a year or 2, but I never really bothered with them because they never bothered me. They aren''t painful, but they never move/change. I''m trying to find a solution now because of the strapless dress for my wedding. They are slightly noticable when I raise my arm, and although it''s not the biggest problem, it''s enough to bother me.

I''m not 100% that it is razor burn, but I don''t know what else it could be. I thought ingrown hair at first, but with those, you can usually see a hair trying to poke through after a while and in my experience are painful to the touch. Any other ideas?

I tried not shaving, and was able to stand it for about a week this winter, and got no results. Do any of those creams specifically for razor burn actually work?

Oh, and I don''t want to go to a dr. because I just don''t have the time/money right now, but I guess if they stay long enough I will.

I hate that so I know how you feel...
All I can think of to suggest if it is ingrown hairs, for example, is a product called PFB Vanish. It comes in a convenient roll on applicator sort of like deodorant and you just roll it over the affected area and it definitely helps.

they could be clogged pores or something else. having 3 specific bumps for a year or two would be enough reason to go see a dr if they bother you. if not, then not sure but they don''t sound like razor burn (For years?).

i have this weird small brownish bump on the front of my leg that has been there for years, never really thought about it other than sometimes i nick it when shaving. i thought it was a pimple originally but it never went away. it''s kind of solid feeling but small. turns out my mom had one too and she asked the dr about it and they said it''s just something that grows sometimes, you have to have it lasered off. but otherwise it''s not harmful or anything. i swear our bodies do wacky things!!

perhaps they are ingrown hairs in which case they won''t go away until you get to the ''root'' of the problem

Hmm, it is kind of weird that the bumps never go away. Are you sure it is razor bumps? Maybe your deodorant is irritating you. You might want to try Crystal Body Deodorant Or Naturally Fresh Deodorant either the spray or Roll-on. It's mineral salts & water. There is no aluminum chlorohydrate which causes underarm rashes/bumps. Maybe a few times a week you should use a scrub gently before shaving, as well.

I suspect they are deeply ingrown hairs. My skin is very pale with very dark hair so it is easy for me to tell, but could you have someone take a really close look under some good light? I have had ingrown hairs that have lasted for months until I finally dig out the needle to fix them.

Thanks for the suggestions! It very well could be ingrown hairs, but whenever I have had them in the past, if I didn''t get the hair out, it would become painful. These bumps definitely don''t hurt, which is why I''m so confused about what is causing them. I think I will try that product Sparkalicious suggested though.

I don''t think it''s just skin because they are definitely red.

You might need to see a doctor. My oldest daughter gets this sometimes. She has to use a prescription cream, Fucidin (sp?), plus wash the area with Spectro Gel. I can''t remember what the doctor said it was, but it''s not really ingrown hairs in her case. The cream works well for her. She still gets the rash maybe once or twice a year. It''s a chronic thing. Hope that helps.

It kind of sounds like what I have on my arm by my wrist. It''s been there for at least 2 years so I finally went to the doctor for it over the summer. I can''t remember what he said it was called, but basically it''s scar tissue that just randomly forms and kind of looks like a pimple/bug bite/ingrown hair would. It''s not painful, but it''s not going to go away on its own and he didn''t recommend getting it removed because he said that what I was seeing was just the tip of the iceberg and it actually goes down much deeper. He said that cutting it out would not only leave a dent in my arm, but that these things also usually grow back and, therefore, removal is generally not covered by insurance.

I hope yours is something you can actually get rid of because I HATE this stupid bump on my arm.

Robbie - I think that''s a keloid scar. I have one on my leg. It''s quite raised and dark and I was worried but the dr. said it was no big deal. And that''s what I thought of too when I read Sabine''s post. Sabine, if that''s what it is, you can''t get rid of it. You might want to find out what you''re dealing with before you put lots of creams and such on. Do you have health insurance?

Sum, mine''s actually called something else, but I can''t remember the name. I looked up keloid scar and it doesn''t look like that, plus it didn''t happen after an injury. I just randomly had this bump on my arm one day that looks like an ingrown hair or a bug bite.

ok, good! mine doesn''t look like those images either, luckily. It did grow over an old injury but about 15 years after the injury.

I really think it would be wise to have a dermatologist take a look at it. It may be nothing to worry about, but I think a professional opinion is in order. This is coming from someone with a lot of weird skin "stuff!"

Sabine...I am currently getting my legs, underarms and bikini line lasered and I am experiencing severe ingrown hairs and clogged pores, but they gave me a cream to use for that, but I''m not sure it''s helping yet...I''ve only been 3 times, so I''ll keep you posted.

Mara...about that small brown bump...I have two on my left leg, one on my outer upper thigh and one just about my knee. They are very ugly and distracting, but my dr. said they were normal.

May I ask if your mom had hers lasered off, and if so, what the results were? I would like to look into getting it looked at before my wedding, but am afraid of the scarring being worse than the spots, but they really do bother me. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! TIA!
