....a first-timer...please be gentle...

Ring designs that incorporate inner compartments, like the John Reinhold Rattle Ring (www.johnreinhold.com), appeal to me but I wonder about the risk to the stones and am seeking opinions.

A few jewelers/goldsmiths have told me that they could produce something of the sort but feared damage to the diamonds. Certainly, the idea of girdles and culets banging around in there is troubling. But is there really cause for concern? Are there good ways to protect the stones in such a ring?

Thanks in advance for any advice. And thanks for all the other helpful information on this forum.

I had a look at the design and it was quite a neat concept! I think if you love it you should go for it and don't settle for a knock off. The original designer probably went through many of the design hurdles already and has made the proper adjustments! As far a damage to the diamond goes, it would be possible to chip the diamond (and even scratch it especially if there was more than one diamond in each compartment). Did you ask the designer about the latter part? I'm curious too

Very interesting!!! This could be the bets device yet for anyone to get addicted to diamonds. What could work better than keeping some supply at hand to play with every day?

Sounds safe to me, btw. The stones have very little space to toss and turn, as they describe the ring (one little diamond in each closely fit chamber), and virtually no occasion to get such a strong blow and get chipped - if this would at all be possible by the smooth metal 'walls' of their little box.

The inner walls should make the ring quite strong; as the chambers a snail shell. Intriguing concept - all the way. I am glad I got to know about these!

OK SM,

AM I missing something here? Are you just looking for a way to transport these little diamonds? Otherwise, what the devil is the point?

Why would you buy a diamond only to conceal it 95% of the time?

Please let me know if I am missing the point!
