Hi everyone - I am new here and thought some of the diamond buffs could help me out on this one....I put the numbers through on the HCA but results aren''t great. Nonetheless, what do you think for the price...we''ve really negotiated what we think is a great deal and this thing sparkles unlike any others we''ve seen!

To be honest, you could do better (sorry to be blunt)

That price is very low too, which to me confirms that it''s not such a great stone. You did say that it look sparklier, but have you seen any true Ideal cut stones, ask to see AGS 000 cut stones to compare. Unfortunately, jewellers lighting will make even average cut stones look great, you really need to take them outside into natural light, or away from the bright lights (try looking at one under a table or bench) to really tell.

If you get an ideal cut stone, it will be much sparklier, look bigger and will face up whiter.

I did a quick search and found a G VS2 ACA (super-ideal H&A stone, stunning rocks), only slightly smaller at 1.5ct but I would prefer this one, you won''t notice the colour difference and it will likely face up whiter, and the size difference is only very small

Sorry if this post came across as all negative - I really just want to help you get an awesome stone. I looked at some average cut stones when I was looking for my ering stone, and in those bright jewellers lights they all looked great, but when I opened the box and saw my ACA, I was blown away, nothing came close! It''s really worth looking around for a well cut stone. Good luck!!

I would have to guess that this stone does not have a GIA or AGS cert. And if not, you really can''t be sure if the color or clarity are accurate.

Hi there - yes, this is GIA certified..the date on it is July 2007...it''s actually a Lazare diamond. It''s available at a jewelry store that is liquidating everything because they are going out of business. All the stones have been drastically reduced...the original pricetag on this one was $23K. I am just confused as to what (on paper) would be wrong with this stone? Are some of the numbers off?

Firstly, I am not familiar with Lazare, apart from knowing it is a branded cut. As to this diamond, it looks to be what we call a steep deep, which means the crown and pavilion angles could be a bit too steep for the best light return, and it could leak light as a result and look dark in some lights. However, the thing is, if you have seen this diamond and love it, then that is the main thing. You could get a diamond with a tighter crown/ pav combo which may be better, but it is up to you if you feel this is the right diamond for you - as an example, some prefer crown angle between 34 and 35 degrees and pavilion angle of 40.6 to 41. I would say though to check it out away from the store lights if you can, to make sure you like the look of it in more ' real life' lighting conditions. Also if you can, compare it to some AGS0 cut grade diamonds or Hearts on Fire, to be able to compare how this one looks to those.

Welcome to PS. The 1.77 F VS1 has an HCA of 3.8. Not exactly a real beauty.

You can get some good buys at a jewelry store liquidation but you can also get stuck. Usually all sales are final and once you are out the door with your "prize", it is yours forever.

Most jewelry stores when they are "going out of business" hire a liquidation company to come in and conduct the sale. The company also brings in a load of jewelry that did not sell at the last liquidation they conducted. The jewelry has been seriously "picked over".

As I said, you can get some good buys but be careful. If you are looking to buy a diamond go to Tools - Cut Advisor here on PS and put in the numbers. Any number under 2 should give you a pretty diamond.

I forgot the part where you mentioned the store was going out of business. Personally, I would proceed with caution in that case, as there is unlikely to be a return policy.
