First of all my Tapatalk still won't let me post replies or view pics, so I was unable to post in my original thread.

Thank you to all who posted and expressed sadness. I appreciate it. This is such a wonderful community. I am so happy I found you all.

Dear sweet Rascal is still with us!
We saw the vet and she said Rascal did not seem to be in pain, but was certainly ailing. And that could change at any moment. Her weight has dropped from 26 lbs to 18 in the past 3 months. The vet questioned us about her behaviors and agreed that she was not going to become her old self. She has two tumors that we can palpate so there are probably more;(

The vet said its up to us, she would not say not to put her to sleep. We brought her home to decide. She is still not really eating, but is drinking water. She spent last night with us in our room and Dre our other dog, barked and whined until we brought him in with us and plopped down right next to her!

I'm very worried about Dre. The dr said if we put her down( Rascal) we should bring her back home and let Dre see her so he won't look for her!

The thought of driving home with poor dead Rascal in the car makes me crazy.

Or we could bring him with us to the Vet and he can see her there! Oh my I never thought this was going to be so complicated, sad yes, complicated no!

Add to the fact that DS and DH want to bury her near Sammy Katt. Under the statue of St Francis! Sammy was our 23 year old cat who passed 3 years ago.
I secretly hope she passes quietly in her sleep with Dre snoring away next to her. Then the decision is made!

I will keep you all posted.
On a happier note look what I accidentally bought on EBay!!

Re: Rascal update

Aww, I'm so glad that the vet doesn't feel like Rascal is suffering. I hope that she is able to bask in the love of your family for whatever time she has left and that she passes in her sleep with Dre by her side. Please keep us posted, as I'll be thinking about her and praying that the end is peaceful.

Hugs to you and your family Elisa, especially Rascal!

Lovely ring, btw!

Re: Rascal update

Poor Dre! They probably understand far better than we assume they do....but he'll be lost without her. I also hope that sweet Rascal just passes in her sleep because the emotional pain of actually making *that* decision, is so hard, regardless of knowing it is the right thing to do.

Hoping you have many more great days ahead to enjoy your time with Rascal!

(and loving the ring!! Bling kind of helps to ease us thru life - this could be "Rascal's Ring"!) :))

Re: Rascal update

I'm glad Rascal is not suffering and is able to spend the rest of her days with her loving family in a safe and happy environment. Sending you, Rascal, Dre and the rest of the Elisateach family many good thoughts and lots of (((hugs))).

Re: Rascal update

Love & hope, Elisa. We all have been there, wishing they'd go quietly in their sleep. It's the hardest decision ever to have to make -- the consolation is that when the time comes, she'll be ready & you'll know that. Then we grant their last wish & let them go easily, all surrounded by our enduring love.

I don't think you need to bring Rascal home. Dre knows the situation already. Dogs pick that up much sooner than we do, by smell & through dog communication. If you want, take him with you, but her going won't be a surprise to him -- he probably knows better than you or the vet where she is in the process. What a great guy he is to lie next to her & comfort her.

Hugs & wishes for all of you, and much empathy.

--- Laurie

Re: Rascal update

Elisa-You will know when it's time. Enjoy her now and let Dre snuggle up to her. I'm sure it's comforting.

Would your vet consider coming to your house? When my Gus collasped after a battle with spleen cancer our vet came to the house, he weighed 120lbs so there was no way to get him in the car since he couldn't stand up. My other two dogs were in the room but in their crates. They seemed to understand. My girl Riley still went through a period of depression and mourning for a couple of months.
More pet professionals are recommending this now, so the remaining dogs don't constantly search for their companion.

My family will be in my prayers.

Exactly what I was going to ask! Under the circumstances, many vets are willing to help out. Conversely, I don't know if its a good idea to take Dre with you if you have Rascal put down, as he might be freaked to go to the vet in the future.

Elisa, I am so sorry. I did this with my dog Ursa in 2005, and still miss her and think of her often. Fwiw, she came to me and made it very clear when it was time to put her down; she just stared at me and nudged me with her nose with an imploring look in her eyes...

Re: Rascal update

Just wanted to offer hugs. I love beagles, mine is 6 and I hope she lives as long and happy a life as your Rascal has. You are so lucky to have had her with you all these years! I hope that her passing is painless and peaceful.

Re: Rascal update

Hugs Elisa, just wanted to offer support and comfort to you during such a hard time.

Elisa, I'm so sorry you are going through this. Our pets are a a special part of the family and do so much for us by just being there. They just seem to know when you need to snuggle. I too hope the vet can come to you home. I agree, It would be much easier for Dre and you guys as well. So sorry you are going for this.
