What words do you really love to roll around in your mouth?

I love "eleven" best of all. For some reason, I think "parameter" is an awesome word. As is "awesome".

I just like it! When he says that, it reminds me of that cell phone commercial, where they''ve replaced all the "goodbye"s with "hello"s.

I also really like to find excuses to say "clever."

I am also a huge fan of "theoretically," "perhaps," and "performativity." The latter is incomprehensible to anyone not studying in my major, but that only makes me love it more.

Perfect - It''s sort of a joke word because I''m so picky about everything. It has to be PERFECT!!!

Handsome - I just love how it sounds. I use it all the time for DH. It''s my really cheezy nickname for him. I also call the cat handsome.

I like to say "bahdoop" really loudly...it''s the sound my old phone made when the battery was low, and for some reason I started doing it. That''s probably the number one word (okay, sound) that I like to say!

Frock? Oh no, I''d have to be very careful with that one. I try to avoid anything that sounds like bad words with my 5 year old running around. She copies everything I say. Once she heard me refer to someone as a "Dirty pig". The next thing I knew she called the dog a dirty pig for daring to sleep on her bed! I could just imagine how her saying ''FROCK'' would sound to someone! LOL!!!!

I do like that frocking word frock, though. Thanks! I think I''ll keep it for grown up time. Do you use it for a makeup word and an adjective, such as "What the frock!?" Or do you use it the proper way when describing a long flowy dress?

Hahaha! Yes, definitely stay away from saying frock in front of your little repeater!

My best friend and I use the word frock to describe dresses, although not just long, flowy ones. More like vintagey dresses that are a bit swingy...it''s hard to describe exactly, but I know a frock when I see one!

P.S. I bet you can figure out what my favorite bad word is!

I love saying synecdoche, too.

Funny story about this word--
When I was a student teacher I shadowed a veteran teacher on the day she introduced synecdoche to her sophomore class. The problem: she repeatedly pronounced it "sin-eck-doshe". I didn''t say anything for fear of embarrassing her in front of her students. Well, after the class she asked me if I wanted to teach her class the next day, which would include a review of the week. SO, I had to review synecdoche with her observing me, and I did not mispronounce it. In the middle of the class she sighed loudly and said "Miss Haven, you really ought to know that you''re mispronouncing synecdoche. I know it''s embarrassing, but don''t sweat it. We all do that when we''re new, right class?" UGH. I had to break the bad news to her at that point, which I did. It did not go over well, but really--come on!

I observed another teacher who was interviewing for a position with my school to get a feel for his teaching style. He mispronounced "automatism" the entire time, it was nearly unbearable.

ANYWAY . . .

I said it in the other thread, but my favorite word ever is tangerine.

This thread reminds me of the movie "Elf" when Buddy meets a guy named Francisco. "Francisco! That''s fun to say! Francisco . . . Frannncisco . . . Franciscooo . . . "

And Haven, I really like the word tangerine, and when we got our puppy, I really wanted to name her Tangerine but bf shot that one down right away! Shucks!

"Ah!" Wringing hands! "Where to begin", thinks the word nazi....

Lessee..... in no particular order....

Lo. Avaunt. Aroint. Hie thee hence! detritus, gibbon, tautological, phalanx, mangonel, amanuensis. (Several of these have old jokes attached, and are absolutely hilarious with the right people...)

Needless to say, I don't get to use them much, but YOWZA! when I do!

And I always get extra points for working "gibbon" into a conversation. It's the LAW.

ETA - gambol and peripatetic. Love both of those too... and my recent fave: weasel

ETA - AGAIN....(I've got to quit this!) codswallop. I just LOVE codswallop.
