Hiya rainy!

You are one of my favorite posters, and I'd love to learn more about you. I always enjoy reading your thoughtful posts. If you feel comfortable, come share with us! You were one of the first people to make me feel welcome here, and I really appreciate that.

hello back atcha y'all! i have to tell you, i am so touched that you want to know more about me, and your very kind words here - thank you!

well, let's see.... i could start by telling you that i back into garage doors and fall down stairs.... shoot, that's more about my week than about me. hmmm.... ok, i am the quintessential libra: fair (many times to a fault), sentimental, romantic, diplomatic, seeking balance in all things, indecisive, gullible, and sensitive. although on a very few issues i am black & white, i most often see things in gray and want to hear not only both sides of the story but like to throw in a third, and sometimes even a fourth, point of view. i'm a yankee, born and bred, but absolutely love seattle and oregon and would have enjoyed living there a while before settling down. the ocean is my happy place... as soon as i catch a whiff of that salt air my spirits soar. in fact, my DH proposed right at the water's edge on a very cold march day! i was so bundled up in my scarf and hat that my glasses fogged up while i was hyperventilating my response (which was yes, btw). so add total geekazoid to the list.

i absolutely LOVE to laugh.... buddy the elf once said 'smiling's my favorite', well, laughing's my favorite. for me, a great date includes the ocean and some comedy, be it a live show or a movie. speaking of movies, what are some of my faves? big, sideways (OMG the scene where they are golfing and lowell goes after the guys in a golf cart swinging his club.... i rewind that a million times and laugh my a** off), knocked up, dirty dancing, the notebook, brokeback mountain, titanic, keeping the faith, legends of the fall, shawshank redemption, the departed, 40 year old virgin, it's a wonderful life.... favorite books include 'eat, pray, love', 'trumpet of the swan', 'pillars of the earth', and 'a walk in the woods'. oh, and i cry like a baby at nearly every episode of the tv series 'the wonder years'.

i started my career as a graphic designer and after five years became a SAHM. as a GD my work displayed a fondness for symmetry. the aspect i think i enjoyed most was working with typefaces. i find it both exciting and soothing; the possibilities are endless and i felt great satisfaction when i found the perfect typeface for a project, or used a letter in an unexpected, interesting way. lol - i guess i can appreciate a 'black & white' POV after all! if i had it to do over, i would go into the field of psychology - probably working with children. that being said, i always knew that if i had children of my own, i would want to be a SAHM.

i tend to have fewer, closer friendships vs. many, lighter friendships. i am an introvert - i enjoy social gatherings and am lifted while engaged, but before and after i am exhausted! i am not one to talk politics or anything controversial or heated unless i feel completely safe with my company; i prefer discussions (conducted with respect or i freak out, forget my POV and go mute) over debates. oh, and i am the person who thinks of comebacks three days later, at 2 am.

the most important goal in life, IMO, is happiness. that means many different things to different people, but ultimately that is what i strive for and what i wish most for others. i value character most in others and always strive to better it in myself. i used to make myself sick over what others thought of me but as time goes on i can proudly say i have found more balance in this area.

i have the very best, most wonderfullest-ever DH who cracks me up and lifts me up. he is my true companion, in ever sense of the word. we have been together nearly 10 years now and going strong. i think. right? honey? sorry, i digress.......
2.gif
i had a high school relationship (4+ years) that had all the passion of youth, but nothing that would have made for a successful, happy marriage; i definitely look back on that and wonder what i was thinking, and though i dislike regrets, i do regret the time and energy and friendships i wasted on him. i had a college beau (1+ years) who was wonderful but who knew what he wanted in life when i still did not so it wouldn't have worked in the long run. i tried on a 'fling' so-to-speak (3+ months, guy i knew was mostly an arse going into it) and learned definitively that that was not for me... it was this experience that led me to determine my standards and expectations for the men i would consider dating going forward. wouldn't you know, i met DH just a couple of months later and everything fell into place - awesome man, right time.

we eloped, sort of. some family members were not on board with the kind of wedding that celebrated and reflected who we were and could not support us without a formal, traditional catholic wedding, so we planned a ceremony at a breathtaking site in the woods with just my sister to stand for me and his brother to stand for him. i wore the dress, he wore the tux, i walked down the pine-needle covered path to harpsichord music. we exchanged our vows (written by us) looking out at the mountains on a very warm fall day. we took a horse-and-carriage ride afterward and the foliage was the perfect backdrop. we honeymooned in cancun where i scuba dived for the first time - loved it! oh, my other 'big adventure' was that i skydived as well; a tandum jump that i did along with my best friend in my early 20s. loved that too!

oh and did i mention i am usually not at a loss for words? well, unless you are trying to debate with me......

Wow, it was great reading about you!!! I loved the movie sideways. I love what you wrote about, about happiness and finding balance in life. That is great!
Aw, congrats on 10 years of marriage, that is great! I wish we eloped!!! What is your favorite music, groups! Your avie use to be a little girl in a blue rain coat?

thank you Skippy! you are such a wonderful, positive presence here - i wish i knew more people like you IRL!

for a long time i had mixed feelings about eloping - it preserved the moment for us and there were so many wonderful things about it, however i had always dreamed of my wedding so it took a while to get over missing out on that and missing out on sharing it with our loved ones.

favorite music - DH and i were recently laughing that alone in the car, we are jamn away to hip hop/rap stations! we are in our early 30s, and i drive a mini-van and he a camry, if that offers you a funny and ironic mental image. i love pink, nickelback, eminem, celine dion, indigo girls, tracy chapman, christina aguilera (butchered her name, i''m sure), leona lewis, akon, barenaked ladies, etc. i love 80s hair band music too, though i was in the closet about that for a while. pour some sugar on me baby!

my old avatar was a pic of one of my kids, playing in a puddle on a rainy day. i love that picture! oh..... speaking of which, i love rainy days which is where my name originated, and i am often in a daze, hence the rest of the meaning behind it. i find the rain clears my head, sooths my soul, and leaves me feeling refreshed. when i wake up to the sound of raindrops on the roof i know i will have a great day!

Thank you for that post! I really enjoyed reading it. You sound so much like the kind of person I gravitate towards. Watch out, you will never get rid of me now!!!

thank you Kaleigh, that means a lot to me! for the life of me i cannot figure out how it is that i have not been over to Who''s Who before.... i must have been in that ''daze'' of mine! i cannot wait to catch up on you and so many others. in reading your posts, i get the sense that you are the kind of person, the kind of friend, that one can turn to for sound advice with a warm smile and a hug, followed by a good laugh and a fun distraction (jewelery shopping, perhaps?). the gals here who know you IRL are fortunate!

Ah you're a Libra--that makes sense heehee--I'm a gemini, and I have always gravitated toward Libras--seriously, and I'm not even into astrology!

I'm so glad you have such a wonderful relationship with your DH. Your happiness really shows in your posts. I eloped too! Not too many fellow elopers on this board. Your ceremony sounds wonderful, personal, and perfect.

I'm so glad Skippy mentioned your old av, because I loved it! Always made me smile.

What do you like to do for fun? I want to go to Cancun someday. That is so cool you went diving!!!

so, i am still intending to do that, but in the mean time i am sorry to hear you feel that way - did your wedding not go well? i am so sorry if that is the case! many people say this to me when i tell them we eloped, and it makes me a little sad. on the flip side, it has helped me come to terms with my own feelings about it as i probably would have been saying the same thing if we HAD done the traditional wedding.

yes, that''s him.

haha, that is so funny you are a gemini! gemini and libra are each others compatible signs for friendships and relationships. one of my closest, and longest, friends is a gemini.

ok, i have to say what i said to Skippy here - that i had every intention and started the process of looking through threads in an effort to learn more about your wedding, but life, kids, or TM DH keep interrupting. soooo..... i would love to hear about your elopement! i get so excited when i meet someone else who did the same. it really was a wonderful day in every way, and it makes my DH a little sad when i speak wistfully of the wedding that never happened (because he wouldn''t change a thing and loved our ceremony), but i think i have finally let go of that and really appreciate what we did have.

you guys are making me nostalgic for my old avatar! i may have to bring it back! that''s so funny... my closest friend who obviously knows my kids didn''t even know that was one of them. she thought it was stock photography!

favorite artists - i''m afraid i am not especially profound in this area as one might expect given my background, and of course i have conveniently drawn a blank, but i have enjoyed georgia o''keefe''s work since i was young and first saw one of her paintings in the Boston Museum of Art. and this will sound cheesy, but my sister. she is not a professional artist, but i love her work and keep asking her to give me her paintings or paint something for me. argh, this is frustrating. i can see the work i love in my mind, but i am drawing a total blank on the artists names! more later, if my brain cells regenerate.

hehe, pizza is a little easier. i love mushroom, peppers & onion, feta spinach & mushroom, and garlic chicken. i worked with a gal who liked to put bleu cheese on her pizza which i thought was yucky (never said so, of course, just thought it to myself) until i tried it. um, yeah, it''s good!
3.gif
who knew? i tried hawaiin once, and loved it, but have never ordered it since. hmm, it IS lunchtime, good a time as any to jump on that bandwagon, eh?

thank you steph! i feel the same about you. you were one of the first PSers that i really made a connection with, over the Ritani setting. isn''t it ironic that neither one of us ended up with it after all (talking about the three-stone princess here, of course). i recently went into a jewelry store that carried ritani and i fell in love all over again. their settings are just so fluid and smooth, and the details are just beautiful. you must be in heaven with yours! did you find a band to go with it, i saw your thread a while back and i don''t recall if i had a chance to post to it.

oh, i think i just replied to coati that one of my good friends who knows my kids well didn''t know that my avatar was a pic of one of them. she thought it was stock photography! i thought that was pretty funny.

i say, we have good taste in music!
10.gif

for fun... gosh i have been so overwhelmed with being a mom lately that i have lost touch with some of that. it''s a problem, i know. i love to race DH on the go cart tracks, read, pretend i can play tennis, try new nailpolish colors and give myself manis/pedis, go to museums, watch movies, try a new restaurant, check out handbags, sled, decorate, check out flea markets and craigslist for neat finds, drive (i love driving, drove a bus in college), and eat lots and lots and lots of ice cream. i aspire to take up painting again, and to learn to knit, make beaded jewelry, and take karate. oh, i sporadically do yoga. i suspect i have seasonal depression, and i think i need to make myself get back into that to help.

Hey, Rainy! Didn''t want to hijack your thread over in RT about your awesome stone, so I thought I would respond to you over here. Yep, the cupcake biz is fun. It has kind of died down a little with the holidays over, but that is okay by me. It is more for just fun and a creative outlet than to make money.

Anyway, I cannot wait to see the finished ring. I am so excited for you! When did they say it would be ready? Are you going to be able to wear your LM band with it?

i think that is so wonderful that you have found such an outlet. your cuppies are a work of art, and what is better than art you can eat?
18.gif

i actually didn''t ask for a timeframe, and he didn''t give one. i thought about asking, but i think it might actually be better for my sanity not to know. then no matter when it is finished, it will be a nice surprise, instead of me counting every day that goes by. kwim?

JM is making me a band too. i will try the LM band with it, but i think i will most likely end up selling the LM. it only fits on that finger, and i don''t think it will have enough prescence to go with the JM ring. i would love a diamond band to wear with the JM, but it would need to be larger than the LM so i don''t expect that anytime soon what with all i have already put DH through!

Oh what is your favorite ice cream flavor? I love ice cream; I would take ice cream over cake any day. hehe What are your favorite desserts?? Do you like to cook?? Oh fun, you play tennis? It looks like a great time; I never tried it but it is something I think would be fun!! Awesome that you do yoga from time to time; I do too. I find it very relaxing and enjoying being in the moment. oh good! you had me worried there, i am glad to hear it wasn''t because something went terribly wrong! we hadn''t told anyone we were getting married, but right after the ceremony we mailed out little announcements.... well, after a day or two in mexico we checked our messages and the very first one was from one of DH''s best friends. he started off with ''i''ve been hoodwinked and bamboozled!'' that is one of my favorite memories! we had some hilarious reactions.

oh gosh, fave i.c. flavor.... i absolutely cannot pick just one. khalua chip, almond joy, black raspberry, choco chip, m&m, reese''s pieces sunday from friendlys, i could go on..... i cannot get enough of the stuff!! i am with you about ice cream over cake. what is your favorite flavor? oh, fave desserts.... molten chocolate cake, creme brulee, and ice cream
31.gif
.

i do like to cook although it is not often with little ones that i get the time in the kitchen to ''do it up right''. i look forward to spending more time on meals as they get older, and having them help me, too. i made thanksgiving dinner for the first time the year before last (my dad loves to make tgiving dinner, which is why i didn''t have the chance until then) and i LOVED it! the GD in me came out and i sent out invites to my family with the menu enclosed. it was just for fun, not presumptuous, and they got a kick out of it. i even surprised myself as i chose different recipes and they came out well... except for the green bean recipe which called for 2T of orange juice concentrate. i didn''t pay attention and put in the whole can. gotta have one mishap your first tgiving dinner, right?
26.gif

heehee, well i wouldn''t say i play tennis. i have never taken lessons or played in a league... i just enjoy it and if we are thinking of something to do outside, it is something i think of first. DH and i are mismatched as he played on a team in HS, and he just enjoys whipping them at me every third hit or so, thus we don''t get very far and i get frustrated. but if he puts away the TM for a minute and takes his skills down a couple of notches, i really enjoy it. we played a few doubles matches (totally casual) with his brother and brother''s GF (now fiance, as of this weekend, YAY!! i love her, she is wonderful) and we had a ball. his brother is a goofball too so DH and BIL goof off making us laugh, and FSIL and i are pretty well-matched skillwise, so it''s a good time.

funny story, a year or so after we were married DH and i were at the post office together, razzing each other, and the clerk chuckled at us and asked if we were brother and sister. she said we looked so much alike and acted like siblings!
32.gif
then THREE DAYS LATER the checkout woman at wal-mart asked us the SAME THING!?!!!!!
32.gif
32.gif
it happened one more time, too, but i forget the details. i was about to go home and bleach my hair and get myself an orange tan or something. lol.

Thank you so much for the cupcake compliments!

Well, I will be checking to see when that beautiful ring gets here...can''t wait for the pics!

Also, do you know where you are going to sell your LM? What size is your finger again? I''m still on the lookout for a band

you''re welcome!

i am getting anxious now, and i know i have a while before i can even begin to wonder ''is it done yet?'' man, if only i knew how to knit already, i could probably turn out an afghan a day....

the LM is size 6 1/4, and i plan on listing it on an auction site. hmmm... do i smell a trade... buttercream for sparklies?!
