Rainflower stone?

Piece is Mexican and sterling. I'm having trouble trying to find out more information about this stone. I've seen a few examples called "rainflower", but that seems to conflict with a type of stone from China. Also found an example labeled "calcite", but this doesn't seem to match what I know of that type of material.

Any more definitive ideas?

It does not look to me like a natural stone. It is at the very least dyed, if not manmade entirely. Still very pretty.

I agree with @distracts. Could be glass or even plastic. I can see scratches on the surface, which is suspect. If it were mine, I would give it the hot pin test to see if it's plastic. (Along the edge of the bezel, of course.)
