The topic it seems the more seasoned PS member states are dancing around, and David only overtly mentioned, is that there are two "general" types of radiant cuts. There are those with clear patternings, similar to what can be found in a cushion or a princess cut, and the type called "crushed ice" that looks just you're looking down into a bucket of ice. This is the type that is in the photos of rings you posted, and the type that David prefers (I know because I read PS a lot more than i post and I go on David's store's website A LOT). The crushed ice style of radiant has less big bright flashes and more of a chaotic twinkle. More PS members prefer amore orderly light return in a radiant, but no the all of them. I like them both, fairly equally.

If you decide that you definitely want to get your girlfriend a radiant, you will need to decide which kind of radiant cut you want to search for. I'll go look for a video that shows the difference. :wavey:

That was a lot of information. My brain is now confused on what to get her... I am going to have to reread all of the post again to get my head around things that were stated. I am too a detail orientated person and maybe its the look of the ring and not performance however to me performance of the stone is good as well thus the hard decision.

If you and your girl want a radiant, don't give up. All non-round shapes are hard to find. It takes time and persistence. I would work with GoodOldGold or DiamondsbyLauren to get help. If after looking at the videos, you change your mind, give us an update.

You mentioned that you didn't like the princess in a halo. I agree that many halos do no favors to princess cuts, but there are lots that are lovely. In particular, those that have prongs on the 4-corners with a cut-corner can really be lovely.

or the halo can be used to provide a more elongated look

Thank you rockysalamander for those videos! its was neat to see the difference... I guess now how to I find something the like that? Is there someone that you would suggest reaching out to or when I talked to jewelers ask for something with a Crushed Ice cut?

I am not stuggling on which cut to look for haha... I think she will be happy with anything she receives as she is not a picky person... In fact she wanted nothing to do with the choice or shape or anything. When I was able to get her into a store and being able to have some diamonds sit on her fingers she did like the rectangle shape with a halo. Her friend has a cushion with a halo and liked hers as well however being that she liked the princess or square shape and seeing pictures with and without a halo she didnt like the princess with a halo but did like the rectangular shape with or without a halo... that is why I started my search for elongated radiants.

Performance and brilliance obviously I would like it to sparkle for her...

So, if you want elongation and rectangular, what about an Emerald Cut? ECs are elegant and timeless, but they are a stepcut not a brilliant like a radiant. Edited to add...a Radiant is a mix of step-cut and brilliant cut to be precise!

If you are set with a radiant, I would reach out to DiamondsbyLauren and GoodOldGold. They both can help hand select a stone, as you saw Jonathan doing in GOG videos. You call them and give them a budget and your wants in size and color (they may require a deposit to call-in stones). Keep an open mind about color in that the faceting can make a difference. Tell them you want a sparkling, endless bucket of crushed ice. No slush. While they are helping you, you can be thinking about the setting.

I don't know about DBL (someone chime in), but I know that GOG can also custom cut a diamond for you (you heard Jonathan say something like that in the video that they were going to keep the proportions on one of the radiants for such a need).
 
I would not bother to reach out to general dealers (no offense trade members!). There may be more specialists in this cut, others can chime in, you really need to find someone who has a very specific expertise in finding lovely versions of this tricky cut. Thus, my suggestion for DBL and GOG.
 
Late to the discussion- thanks RockySalamander for posting some videos. I still can’t find one that truly shows the difference between types of radiants. Here is a video of elongated cushions that shows the difference fairly well.


Rocky recommended DiamondsByLauren- that’s David’s website that you asked about.

Jeff- DBL doesn’t generally have a lot of colorless radiants in their website- in fact the best option has already been posted (see above), but if you call them they can source a stone in the style you wan that fits your budget. Keep in mind that the crushed ice radiants show more body color, so you may not want to go as far down as an I like this one if you’re wanting an icy white stone. You should have no problem with an I color in a brilliant cut stone, however.

We did look at the Emerald cut however she did not like it as much as the radiant cut.
