I have found a radiant diamond with the following characteristics:
Carat: .93
Color: F
Clarity: VS2
Proportions
Dimensions: 6.64x5.24x3.32mm
Total Depth: 63.4% Crown Height: 8%
Table Width: 68% Pavilion Depth: 52%
Girdle: Thin, Polished

Overall, I like this stone, but I''m somewhat confused about the crown height. according to AGA, it''s a below average dimension. According to RCDC, it''s within the range of acceptable dimensions. Which "expert" should I listen to in this case, and how much of an impact does crown height have on the appearance of the diamond?

This may not be the best picture, but this is approx. how the model based on Sarin numbers would look like for two rectangular stones: one with 16% crown height and one with a 9% crown. I could not find a 'flatter' one ... your stone would be a bit more so.

Also, a shallow crown (and the corresponding large table) tends to reduce "fire" - the difraction of light reflected from the pavilion through crown facets. However, it would take testing the light return of the particular stone to say what exectly does the shallow crown to light return in this case IMO.

Wow Val! Where'd you get those cool pics??

I am considering Radiant too but only considering RCDC stones. RCDC says 7.5% to 15% for "adjusted" crown height not actual. They adjust to account for length/width. Actual crown height percentage I have not seen mentioned on the RCDC site but I have read 12.3-14.4 is ideal. I have seen some with crown height % below 10 and compared to examples greater than 10 they looked bad.

I received an e-mail from RCDC. They acknowledge that 8% adjusted crown height is within their acceptable measurements, but they also said that considering the other dimensions of the stone, "the crown is much too flat". Thanks for the inputs, and, Val, how did you find/make those pictures?

What does the 'adjusted for length to width' from RCDC mean? Is it the actual crown or not?

Thanks!
Colleen
