Thanks to everyone who has helped to clear up some of my confusion thus far. I have settled on a radiant cut, hopefully in the .75-1ct range. The problem is this: at some point this weekend I would like to get an order underway, but the more I learn the pickier I get. I''m a few weeks out from "popping the question" and I''d like to make sure I have plenty of time for everything to go smoothly.
I''ve read countless forum threads, education pages, and searched all the typical pricescope vendors for the best stone I can get for under $3000. Recently I noticed one of the vendors seemed to have much lower prices on diamonds near the 1ct range....but rather than get excited, I''ve only become more worried.
My questions are as follows:
In order to ensure the diamond I order has beautiful fire how important are polish and symmetry? Some of the choices on the "cheaper" site has a polish of VG or G while the symmetry was usually good.
What should I be shooting for to ensure a brilliant radiant.....VG.....G? I''m so confused
When it comes to depth and table percentage is there a range I really should be aiming to fit in? I''ve seen soem of the charts for radiant/emerald cut diamonds and the percentages they reccomend....but is there a cutoff point I should absolutely not consider going over? Some of the diamonds I just viewed had depth %''s in the 70-80''s which doesn''t seem to good to me, but another site''s education section said that this in not at all uncommon.
In terms of clarity I''d really like to get at least VS2, but eye-clean is what is important to me so SI isn''t out of the question. However when I read some GIA reports of VS2 or even VS1 diamonds, I see the clarity diagram pot marked with feathers and other imperfections.....is it safe to say that even though there is a significant amount of inclusions the diamond will still likey be eye clean because it is rated in the VS range?
Speaking of reports how important is GIA? Would you trust EGL?
I''d like to order a diamond and solitare setting from the same vendor online, but in case I can only get the diamond (the most recent vendor didn''t seem to have settings) what would you think is a reasonable lead time to take the solitare to a local jewler and have it placed in a simple 14k white gold tiffany-esque setting (that I would be more than willing to purchase locally)? I work in a pretty large metro areo (Rochester, NY if anyone has any local reccomendations) so there is more than one place I can visit.
Sorry to bombard you all with such pointed questions, but even with research I can''t decide the range where the best bang for my buck is.....and the clock is ticking fast!!
