I recently made a deposit on a radiant cut stone that looked great, with little light leakage. After reading all of these posts I am a little nervous about the numbers on paper and could use your expert opinion. Is it common for the table and cutlet to be off center? The price is $4900. Let me know what you guys think and if it is something i should go threw with. It is also GIA certed.

I entered the info you gave into the DIY cut grading on http://www.gemappraisers.com, gave the stone a medium girdle since I didn't see what the girdle range was, and it came out (if I did it correctly) as a "4A below US average stone", mainly because of the crown height and table percentages. But it's been said that if the stone looks beautiful to you then maybe you should still go for it.

Sorry the girdle range is medium to very thick

the final grade is still 4A. Highest is 1A, 1B.

How did you measure light leakage to determine that it had very little?

As per table and culet being off center, that is a cutting error, and usually does not fare well for symmetry, so the grade may be Fair to Poor on the certificate. If it's very noticible it may be Poor, and can be seen with the naked eye at certain sizes. It happens, but is not considered good technique.

Radiants are very difficult stones to go by the numbers, so I hesitate to say your stone is not attractive, but in my opinion, from searching many radiants to find my own, I noticed that stones with a higher crown height, around 9-12% tended to perform better with brilliance and fire. Also a stone that has closer table percentages and depth percentages usually performed better and was more efficiently cut (so you saw more diamond for the price per carat).

Again, it's in the eye of the beholder, so if you fell in love with this stone, it truly must have something there... Do you have any pictures to post?

If it looks good...be happy

I recently showed two radiants at the counter....one dead on, and the other not so dead on, but the second stone had a killer look. Even I had to admit it. Sometimes it has to be about how it looks. Particularly with radiant cuts.

The entries appear on Sarin reports for all diamonds - they are part of the standard format of these reports, even if lab reports (GIA< AGS...) do not mention them by the name but downgrade symmetry as MMM notes.

Modern cut diamonds only rarely come with such issues at all.
