Hi guys-

I''m looking to buy a radiant cut diamond and would love to hear your opinion on the following: I have looked at about 50 diamonds and the two I find the best are posted below. Price is not a consideration for me, although I will say they are relatively comparable in price. If anyone can let me know if there is anything important I should be aware of given the specs below, let me know. All I know is that they are both beautiful, sparkly diamonds and I am looking to make the most informed purchase.

Diamond #1

1.67 carat
F
SI1
7.42x6.49x4.24
Table - 65%
Depth - 60.8%

Diamond #2

1.50 carat
F
VS1
7.50x6.41x3.88
Table - 66%
Depth - 55.6%
Medium Blue Flourescence

Thanks so much for your help!!!!

i noticed that the second diamond has a medium blue fluor. are you buying this diamond for yourself or someone else? some folks don''t care for fluorescence, so you might want to make sure that is not an issue.

If price is not an issue you can do better. Refer to this link for what you should be looking for in cut, http://diamonds.pricescope.com/fnc2.asp . More info like crown height is needed. However, you say they both are sparkly so for me that''s what counts. Make sure the SI1 is eye clean. I also like diamond #1 better because the depth and table are in line with an ideal cut. The second is not. Hope this helps.

Crown Height is 8.5% for Diamond #1 and 10% for Diamond #2.

These are both Original Radiant Cut.

When I say that price is not an issue, I mean that I am willing to pay if it is worth the price. I have looked at 2 carat diamonds and they are a bit too large for my (and more importantly, my girlfriend''s) liking. For the radiant cuts I am looking at I have seen that there is not a ton of difference between VS1 and a good SI1, but I have been able to tell the difference between an F vs. a G or H.

Good advice on fluorescence.

I''m not an expert by any means and know less about fancies. Everyone says it is about how it looks with fancies and you seem to indiate they are great so maybe just go with it. I agree with you that a good SI1 (eyeclean) is a great way to go versus stepping up on clarity.

I''m a techie type and the crowns just seem very shallow based on the link info I sent you and I think fire comes thru the crowns. You might be able to get a much more fiery stone. Have you looked at other radiants to see what differences are possible? I''m just the type that would look for better cut numbers. It might also be instructive to get an idealscope picture of both and share it here for the experts to comment on. Good luck.

Despite the medium fluor, I can''t really tell the difference....

If anyone has any additional comments or advice, I would love to hear your input!!!

Thanks

Well, Original Radiant Cut diamonds are supposed to be well cut, so you probably won''t go wrong with either diamond. Some of the specs on these 2 may be a little different than what you would get from a generic cut radiant, but they are likely both still beautiful diamonds. The crown height on both does seem a little low, and I agree with dmus that they may not have as much fire as they could have. If I had to choose one, I guess I would choose diamond #1, but I think you might be able to find one with better specs if that''s important to you. Here''s a couple that you might want to have called in by the vendors if you want to continue the search.

This one does have strong blue fluorescence which may or may not be a problem. The crown height will need to be checked also.

This one looks promising also, but it is a square not a rectangular one. It also has fluorescence.

I hope this helped.

This is great, thanks so much. I looked at another beauty today, here are the specs:

1.63 carat
F
VS2
7.52x6.15x4.12
64% Table
60.3% Depth
10% Adjusted Crown Height
47.5% Adjusted Pavilion

If anyone has any comments on this diamond, I would greatly appreciate them!!

Thanks
