There was a phase where certain posters seemed to really judge people harshly. I’m not even talking about politics, but threads with negative comments about anything from pop culture to clothing to how people choose to spend their money. If you didn’t live by their standard you were deficient in some way. There were a few threads essentially bashing millennials like we’re not all adults trying to navigate a broken system the best that we can.
I don’t spend time in spaces with that kind of mentality so I rarely come here anymore. I doubt that I was the only one turned off.

Every year for 20 years threads pop up on how slow it is around this time of year.
People have a lot of stuff going on around now and other than birthdays and proposals no real big diamond buying days.
@chemgirl, If I’ve ever done or said something to hurt you I sincerely apologize. I loved reading your posts and miss you being here.
Daisys and Diamonds, I'm with you on the modest purchases.
Coming my way is a portuguese cut peridot brooch set with blue topaz baguettes above, I'll send pics when I have it.
that doesnt sound very friendyl, but i have genrally found the entire forum quite friendly
i dont always read all the threads in hangout though
you know i belong to only two internet communities, both who have other topics not relating to their main focus and both banned politics,
i detect a strong liberal bias most of the time but im still interested in their views even if mine are different
im not an academic, im not a white collar worker, i dont have thousands to spend on diamonds but its nice to see what others are buying
i just wish there were a few others posting their more modest purchases right now
Hey I make modest purchases once in awhile with labs lol. I just think because it's not mined not many are that interested since its not particularly fancy or expensive. So I mostly just lurk.
i'm keen for a look![]()
I will stick to my vacuous bling posts
I found that certain subforums on PS (Not Hangout) to be nothing but a push for certain vendors. The advice and/or criticism given is often not authentic. Any criticism of a favoured vendor is likely to be met with pitchforks.
I still visit because there's a few people that I'm very fond of but the joy of posting and showing off one's new bling is not really there anymore.
Yup that as well. I usually wince at the prices mentioned or wonder if I’m just being cheap but have stopped commenting on prices in general. Like yeah, ok if you think paying X times over market prices is fair go ahead.

It's not even just a few thousand over market (which is bad enough). I'm seeing prices in the high tens of thousands (up to a hundred thousand once) for REALLY dubious pieces and stones.
I left ps for a couple of months because of virtue signaling. I checked in yesterday, posted, and once again, my ethics were attacked. Threads in HO often lead to such negativity and judgement that I can hardly stand to read them, much less participate. Debates over almost anything often turn into personal attacks. I even recall a thread about a jewelry auction running awry! I am not particularly thin-skinned either but I think anyone would be upset at their spouse being called a voracious predator because someone here didn't approve of his career. I loved ps at one time and had grown very fond of many members. But in the 6 years I have been here, lots of long time posters seem to have left. The ones that quickly come to mind were also victims of the HO mob. People are so damn mean these days that sticking to Instagram fulfills the jewelry need while avoiding the hornet's nest. I hesitated to post anything but I do think there is validity to my thoughts on how quiet it is.
