Background: I plan to leave for overseas to propose in little over 2 weeks. I put a deposit down on a diamond. Jeweler is in LA diamond district - pretty well known. They are also putting together a custom setting. I can propose with a simple solitaire. However, I am a little suspect now on the cut. I got the full dimensions of the rock after the fact (not exactly bright of me, pardon the pun). My total spend with this guy is pretty reasonable I see no reason why I can't change my mind for a different stone and still keep the deposit credit with him. Time is of the essence though.

Problem: I have a deeper pavilion than ideal.
total figures -
57 table,
61.5 depth,
CA 34.5 deg, CH 14.9%
<<<< PA 41.3 deg, PD ~43.7%>>>>
girdle: thin to medium, 0 - 1.8%
culet: none
Excellent Polish & Symmetry
7.46 x 7.40 x 4.57

I am well aware of AGS and AGA standards for ideal. I'm also familiar with HCA score and GIA WLR research.

Solution: I want to ask the jeweler to run a brilliance or some type of industry WLR report on the diamond asap. Given the time involved to potentially "right the ship" (~2 weeks) - what is the quickest, trusted way to check (get a report/measurement) of the WLR or brilliance?

BTW - I've eyeballed this stone it is pretty decent. However, I've seen it multiple times and the more I see it the less i'm impressed. Also, my soon to be fiance has seen it and picked it herself. Unfortunately, I'm getting a little uneasy given the less than ideal pavilion and the dough I'm about to fork over.

I hope for trade folks to respond with a timely, pragmatic recommendation for an actual report/verfication. For other folks, I can punch in the stats myself for the online HCA and get score if you know what I mean...

Any response very much appreciated...

If you want an honest opinion I suggest taking it to an independent appraiser. Several people have posted about their positive experiences with Patrick Davis in LA and it looks like he offers what you are looking for. http://www.certifiedjewelryappraiser.com/
