How does a platinum setting effect the appearance of a near colorless diamond (let''s say an I color)? What I''m trying to say is... does it amplify the color? Does it camouflage the color?

no real answer. some people thinks the stone will contrast with the Plat="">go with yellow gold, so that the stone looks whiter than the metal, rather than look yellower than the metal. some people think that yellow gold will reflect to the stone, making it look yellower.

so, basically, buy a higher color if you can afford to, weighing the other 3 Cs according to your taste, and then put it in whatever metal you like better.

Indeed. I'd say that a true I - especially if well-cut - is going to look great either way. Personal preference. Once thing you might also consider is skin tone and how all three; metal, stone and skin, work together.
