I promise, I''ll have some pictures tommorow.

But I need a little help. I know kind of what I want and can afford from reading here.

looking to spend about 2K for the stone.
Looking for an ideal cut, prefer H&A type stone. eye clean, more white.

Anyways. long story short
called the jeweler today, and he wanted a shot at showing me some stones.
I told him I wanted a H&A ideal cut stone,

he called me back and tommorow will have 3 stones

the stone i''m insterested really in seeing from the 3, is a GIA. Ideal cut, .7C I color, vs1, for ~$2200. he didn''t have the cert there, but it''ll be there tomorow. a quick search on ps puts the price close to where it should be, and an ideal cut.

the second was an IGI? or IGL stone, very similar to first but abotu 400 bucks cheaper, I''m geussing their standards are lower?

And the thrid was a slightly large GIA stone, but cost about 600 bucks more.

From just the small info I posted on the 1st stone... is there anyway of telling, if it will be an ok/good/great stone, being its an ideal GIA?

Also belle posted some great charts, But I have no idea how to read them.

If in the store I was just playing a numbers game, what should send up a red flag? and what should be like, yaaaa buy now?

the 70 point, ideal cut, I VS sounds like a bargain even compared to PS standards.

I''m know you''re big on supporting the local jeweler and I think that''s great! Good luck!

IGI doesn''t have a good rep here. It''s a lab that many mall stores use and is loose in their grading. I''d stick with GIA. Good luck and let us know how it goes!!

H VS2? G SI1?

Hmm JuliaN. you lost me.

What I''m trying to find out,

Is what would exclude like the first diamond once I see the cert.
.7C, VS1, I. Supposdly an ideal cut.
bad angles or something?

Or if someone could explain the
GIA/AGS charts that show over lap.

thanks for any help.

ideal is a term that many jewelers use but doesn't necessarily mean the stone is going to perform well. I would suggest getting all the numbers/specs of the stones you are looking at and bringing them back here. You can then run them through the HCA to see how well it will perform. IGI isn't a reputable lab and is known for being loose in their grading, like being off a couple of color or clarity grades. I'd stick to GIA or even better AGS

Thanks for all the help.

I''ll be sure to report back later today. with what I find out.

hopefully its a more recent GIA cert, because it seems that they show more info.

well I come back, but no numbers.

The stones were all just good/very good on the GIA.for the too GIA stones. one was a vs1, and one an si1. both ~.7C a J, and and E color.

They sparkled. but I'm looking for a much better cut. the symtery was off on both of them, and even looking under a scope the whole arrows thing was not there. and I'm looking for it.

had a blue h&a veiwer and the one that was very good sysmetry was good. But honestly left me wanting something better.

The good stone was missing an arrow, and the hearts were all split.

I did look at the EGL under the scope, and wow, no patterns at all.

But it looked the most dead from all the stones.

Going to try to see if he can brin in a AGS000 stone into the store. but i donna, will see. These were far from Ideal looking cuts.

I have a bad ring picture. But it will go into the other topic.

This one topic was for a certain question and rather it just fade away.

Wink Jones has this one listed as H&A:

table: 57%

culet: no

Any thoughts?
