Hey guys!

I'm buying a diamond to propose with in the next week. I've been searching everywhere for the past month, and learning a lot. From your expert opinions - do you think this is a good deal?

http://www.brilliantlyengaged.com/2.03-carat-j-si2-excellent-round-cut-diamond-gid-369695.html

That is essentially the exact stone that I have available to me (either here, or from a diamond guy I've been speaking to in Chicago). Your thoughts?? The price seems good against the comparables on PriceScope!

2.03c
SI2
J color
58% table
61.3 depth
Excellent cut, polish, symmetry, and no fluorescience
GIA cert

Thanks so much for any advice you might have! Doing this alone, so hard to make sure I'm doing it right.

Best,
Mike

Did they tell you it was eye-clean?

I actually don't think this diamond dealer has used the term 'eye clean' once, and he's definitely shown me both eye clean and not eye clean. I certainly can't see anything. He's asking for about $13.5k - "tax free" and setting included (I'm just getting a very plain yellow gold band).

Based on another poster's diamond search of very similar specs to yours, it's not a super duper awesome deal, but it's certainly not bad either. The stones he was looking at are on enchanted diamonds I believe. I think they were 2 ct stones VS2 and J color, so better clarity than the SI2.

Be careful with SI2 and SI1 stones as they must be confirmed that they are eye clean otherwise you risk a visible inclusion.

Also, there is no information on the crown angle or pavilion angle so we cannot tell you anything about the cut. Lastly, J can be pretty yellow tinted (depending on the cut) so just be sure that's okay with you/the receiver of the diamond. Lots of people have J's and they don't mind the warmth. It's preference. A J would bother some and be fine for others.

Hi op, a quick look, it's a 60 60 cut, so should be less than a talk cut. I think it's a fair price (not a deal), assuming hca is still under 2 or at least in low 2 area. Didn't notice if there's fluoro or not, that would also reduce price. A 2 ct eye clean si2 is nice, but not so available, so just be sure it is or visible within an acceptable limit to u And that the inclusions Do not affect brilliance, transparency, or light performance.
