I am likely to purchase a .42 carat D color diamond with VVS1 clarity.

Its polish and symmetry are both very good, but I know that its depth and table are not the ideal. 58% depth, 61% table.

Cost of the ring (setting included) is $1600.

I don''t have any pavilion angles or GIA cut grades because it was certified in 2003. Should the older certification raise any red flags? Am I getting a decent deal? Thanks for any help.

Hi kcary,

I am speculating this might be a very bright and brilliant diamond from the info given. The report should be fine, I wouldn't worry too much but see what an appraiser says as detailed below. What I would do is this, check carefully by looking at the diamond close up with your head peering over it, to see if the diamond visibly darkens. This is caused obstruction which is sometimes affects shallower diamonds. If it looks ok, check the diamond out away from the store to make sure you like how it looks in everyday lighting. Then if you are still interested, make sure there is a return policy and make the sale final on the diamond checking out to your satisfaction in all aspects with an independant appraisal.

Here is a tool you can use to find an appraiser in your area.
