Hi everyone. First off I wanted to introduce myself to everyone on this great forum. I''ve learned a lot in the past few weeks about diamond grades, styles, and vendors through browsing these past few weeks and think i''m ready to make a plunge on a diamond. I''ve been shopping for a 1-1.1 carat round signature cut diamond, colorless (D-F), and SI1 or VS2. I''m fine with SI1 as long as the diamond in question is eye clean.

Here is the one that i''m looking at. It''s a James Allen Hearts and Arrows. I''ve confirmed that is indeed eye clean and just wanted to get a second opinion by those on this forum who are much more educated about this stuff then me. :)

Here is the link to James Allen

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1195077.asp

AGS# 0010020902, price $6,033

I''ve put it in the diamond cut analysis and it returns the following:

Light Return: Excellent
Fire: Excellent
Scintillation: Excellent
Spread: Very Good
Total Visual Performance: 1.2 Excellent.

What do you all think? It''s going in the following Simon G setting.

Looks good. Good luck. :)

Hey,

Thanks for the replies!

The gentleman i spoke with said it was completely eye clean. Hmmm, I''ll call someone else there on monday and have them take a look. They have a few in that range maybe I should nab one of the others...

The setting i purchased from charleston alexander in bethesda Md. It is a simon G setting. Style number NR130.

It was $1990 but I got 20% off of that. Including tax out the door it was $1610.

It may completely be fine, but I''d have them take a second look to be sure!

Thank you for the pricing info! That is just for the e-ring setting, right? Is it platinum or 18k white gold? I think it is a lovely ring and your girlfriend is going to love it!

Thanks! Yup, that was just the setting. It was in platinum. They also had a white gold option but didn''t price that one.

Great! I am glad to hear that is the platinum price! I had copied off about 4 rings in case my daughter''s boyfriend asks for some direction (when he gets ready to ring shop), and this was one of the rings! But I didn''t know the price, so it helps a lot to know! She wants to be surprised but likes antique style settings with diamonds, and I thought this one was pretty! If you think about it, please come back and post pictures of the finished ring. I''d love to see it!

Is that just a E-ring or a E-ring with W-band?

That picture is an e-ring and wedding band, but I think he meant that the price he indicated was just for the e-ring (?). I have the photo copied off the SG site, and it only has one style number for the set. So I was uncertain whether the price was for one ring or both.

Correct, it''s just the e-ring. Will definitely post pictures of the final once it''s set. :)

Hey guys, wanted to run 2 diamonds by you. They both look great but not sure why the price discrepancy... Is one really going to give off that much more brilliance than the other? Is the first worth $1k more than the second?

Thanks guys!

I will just fix the links...

Both are great diamonds, the first is a branded cut and as such you will pay extra. The cheaper diamond is a lovely stone so you could check if these are eyeclean to your standards, if so then it depends on your preferences.

Guys, i went ahead and purchased this diamond from whiteflash but don''t see cut listed in the AGS report. I was told that this was AGS excellent but shouldn''t this be listed in the report? The light performance on this diamond looks great but if you look at the two diamonds listed above one of the AGS reports looks incomplete. Is this normal?

Scott

I think it''s a lovely stone with no worries about the cut. There are different AGS reports that list different info. Someone here probably knows but you should call or email WF and ask them.

Beautiful setting, too.

Try reading this thread ... John explains the difference between the AGS Diamond Quality Report, new AGS Diamond Quality Document and the old AGS Diamond Quality Document.

Hi Scott,

The diamond has a Diamond Quality Report which does not provide a cut grade, the premier AGS report is the Diamond Quality Document which does. Usually only the WF ACA''s get the DQD.

Hey guys,

Just got the image of the ring from whiteflash. It looks like there is a v shape blur in the lower left hand picture. Is this just a bad image that they sent? I was told several times that the diamond was eye clean so I want to make sure. Little bit concerned. What do you all think?

ScottCarter_051109.jpg

I think that is the lower part of the arrow shafts showing up in that pic, the light was probably obstructed to that area so that part of the arrows popped out for the photo, check with WF to be on the safe side but I don''t think you have anything to worry about.

Hi all,

Just wanted to post a few pictures of the ring. My now Fiance and I just got back from NYC where I proposed on Tuesday! :) She loved the ring and hasn''t stopped smiling since it was placed on her hand. Thank you everyone for all of your help here. It''s been a great experience!!
