Quick question - How long should an appraisal take on an engagement ring? My friend went to her jeweler to have her''s appraised and she said it took 5 minutes? Is that enough time to really look at the stone?
Sounds a bit brief. I watched one appraisal on my ring, and it took almost half an hour for just very basic stuff. What kind of information did you get back, specifically?
A real appraisal takes quite a bit longer. A lot can be judged about quality and value in a very short time, but usually such a short time relates to either a free, offhand opinion or someone looking quickly in order to make a fast cash offer to buy something. An appraser who is that fast can''t be doing a good job for the consumer.
I am wondering what your friend paid for that 5 minute appraisal if anything at all?
5 minutes does not get you a proper appraisal. You also have to remember that most jewelers do not have any appraisal training. Being a jeweler does not qualify one to be an appraiser.
I don''t know what she paid if she paid anything at all. Thanks for the responses, I was just curios because she says he is a great jeweler but that was just not sitting right with me.
