New to the area, have been looking at all the posts and pictures, it''s all so lovely.

I''m in the market for a new diamond ring and would like an input on this particular stone. Like I mentioned, I''m new and am trying to learn a bit about diamonds and would like your expertise!

Is this a reputable place to purchase stones? And what do you all think about this particular stone, do you think the price is right??

TIA!!!

Hi Mochi and welcome!

GOG are an excellent vendor with a superb rep here, you can buy from them with all confidence. That is a stunning diamond you are considering, no worries at all there - great job!!!

Wow, *ding ding* we have a winner!
Hey Mochi, great job on your first go - excellent vendor, great stone - If you''re keen on this one, perhaps put a hold on it to stop others who are lurking from grabbing it.

I was debating whether that might be a good idea, I think AJ is right, reserve it just in case lurkers might hit and run.

Or, if you''re not entirely sure, we could help you find other choices..this one looks nice, however we would need to double check the crown and pavillion angles..

Thank you everyone for your replies. I just love this stone

and am seriously thinking about it. My DH tells me to do what I want, but I''m still thinking, 80% there but there is that 20% that tells me to go lower in price.

I do have another question for all of you. What is the difference between 4 prong setting and 6 prong? Does it affect the stone in anyway? Does the 6 prong hold the diamond more securely than the 4? I will more likely go for the classic solitaire look, no other stones, only the one.

TIA

Hi again,
with regards to the setting , I would go with what you love. There are mixed opinions - some have more confidence in 6 prong for safety.
Personally, I much prefer the look of 4 prong. You will most likely get insurance anyway, so get what look you like best and suits your daimond size and hand.
(some also think that 6 prong could be a little overwhelming on 1ct or less).
hope that helps a lil!

It is preference - some like 6 prongs as they feel the diamond is more secure, also it makes the diamond look rounder. 4 prongs can have the effect of making the diamond look less round, but some prefer them as they want less metal. So it is up to you really.

Hi, mochi, beautiful stone you have picked out there! People generally say the more prongs, the safer your diamond, so the 6-prong setting is a bit safer than the 4-prong, although I wouldn't call 4-prong setting UNsafe, if that makes any sense? It is always recommended you insure your ring because anything can happen regardless of the number of prongs in your setting.

Some 4-prong settings can square off the diamond, which is a look some people like and others don't. 6-prong settings enhance the roundness of a diamond, although there is then more metal between you and your stone--which, again, is something some people like and others don't. It's really a matter of personal preference. If you'd like some examples of 4-prong and 6-prong solitaire settings, do a few searches: you should find loads of threads.
