Being politically correct i posted my questions under the proposal ideas thread but no one seems to look over here!!

Your insights would be appreciated on the timing and traveling questions, and any help on the proposal would be helpful too!

I am nervous about traveling with the ring to propose in Florida, where is the best place to keep it while we travel? Secure but out of sight?

yes, I would make sure it is insured just in case. You can call your home insurance co and insure it w/ a seperate rider if you haven''t already.

I posted in your other thread. Definitely get it insured beforehand.

I posted in your other thread as well.

Definitely insure it, then you won''t worry! Other that that, I would take it on your carry on rather than checking it. I wouldn''t put it on your person in case you get searched and she sees it. You could tape it to the inside of your carry on bag, in a sock, something like that so that she won''t notice it in case she looks in there.

Just a word of caution about blown surprises...We knew an individual that carried the ring on the plane with him and was stopped at security and had to show the ring to the security personelle. It really ruined his surprise, as this all took place in front of his girlfriend...wouldn''t want the same to happen to you. Congradulations in advance and all the best.

What a bummer, that poor guy!

Gold, silver and platinum in jewelry type quantities won’t set off the metal detector. It’s the spring in the presentation box that causes the trouble. Put the ring in a plastic bag or some such container to keep it clean and then keep it in your pocket or otherwise on your person while you go through security. You’ll be fine. Put the box in your checked luggage.

It’s the same reason that most women (and men) don’t need to take off the rings they’re wearing in order to go through security. Those things are magnetic detectors and gold isn’t especially magnetic.

That makes so much sense! I was just wondering how the guy got caught considering I ALWAYS wear my jewelry through security without problems. Thanks for the tip Neil, I am sure many guys will appreciate it!

There is this fabulous place in it is called unclaimed baggage. http://www.unclaimedbaggage.com/index.html It is where our lost luggage goes when it can't find us...

(EVERYONE PUT YOUR CONTACT INFO IN ALL THE POCKETS IN YOUR LUGGAGE...NOW) You'll find Designer clothes, shoes, fragrances...most all brand new purchased for travel. Anyway...this suitcase made it to this outlet. The employees were unpacking the contents to price and place in the store...found a sock...something was in it. Guess what it was? A 5.8 carat platinum engagement ring. Would have loved to be in the outlet first in line on that day.

If for any reason you are going to be searched infront of her...just tell the agent you need privacy...and then explain when out of ear reach. They are Nazi's but can be accomodating.

There is always a possibility that there was a BIN hog in front of you and by the time you get to your seat and need space to put your bag, there will be no room. Your valuable carry on may have to be placed 15 seats behind you...and you will wonder if someone is going through it behind your back. A nerve racking trip? I would say so. Also, we have had to check our carry on before because some "considerate" mother needed to carryon two strollers, one playpen, three diaper bags etc, etc, etc. You can never count on your carryon staying with you!! I agree with in the pocket plan. Ooh how exciting...sort of a caper!

I have read others say that they carried the ring in a jacket pocket in an envelope you can''t see through just in case she should see you take it out of the pocket later.

(Oh, and I am originally from your state, by the way! But from the city of your rivals!)

What ring did you end up getting?
