I am so glad I found this website!

My bf and I are in the hunt for an e-ring. I have done some research on online retailers as well as local retailers. Anyone heard anything about On Diamonds in Houston, Texas? I''ve looked at Union Diamond and Whiteflash. UD seems to be more reasonable price-wise than Whiteflash.

Also, I think I know what I want, but the bf hasn''t done as much research. How can we get a "lesson" in diamonds without being pushed to buy right then and there?

Any help would be much appreciated.
G

Gracie, this is Georgey,

I don't know much about Union Diamond, and shouldn't give them too much a hard time. Actually...I think they may even have a storefront, and could serve locals particularly well. Hedarud (?), a recent writer, likes their professionalism. But, I think mostly they showcase virtual diamonds. Like many. And, they advertise here. Though WF does that too (advertise, and carry a lot of virtual diamonds), they also, and particularly, (effectively) cut the ones they're famous for. And, without a significant premium...just a modest one. They're in house. And have images presented documenting their performance characteristics.

If I were in Houston (are you?), I'd go there. They are undisputedly the 1000 pound gorilla on this board. And, that's not a Magilla.

If you want a lesson in diamonds that is truly impartial, just read the tutorials here on PS. Then read the tutorials on a couple of other websites like goodoldgold.com and whiteflash.com. They''re really good and informative.

Angeline, good reader, even better advice.

Tutorial here is very good. G0G very detailed. I should read WF''s. Also very detailed...NiceIce.

I did contact WF, but don''t like how pushy they are being. They basically are urging that we buy after we see the diamond that I was interested in. My bf is not very knowledgeable on diamonds, he''s basically letting me pick, but not sure if he''ll be ready to buy that day!

So no one has heard of On Diamonds based out of Houston, Texas?

Btw, I have done the tutorials, and they were very good!

Thanks for your help,
G

Never heard of On Diamonds in Houston, but then again I don''t live in Houston. What I can say is that I have bought from Whiteflash, and there was never any pressure involved. I am sorry your experience wasn''t like mine. If you care to give them another shot, call and ask for Lesley. She gives you all the info, and her honest opinions. She is a delight to work with. GOG is another PS vendor that I have bought from, Jonathon has always done a great job for me. HTH, good luck!!!

something was off here then I figured it out...
You are talking about going to WF to view diamonds in person?
They aren''t a B&M and just offer in person service on a limited bases too serve the local and travel market.
They need to make sure that someone coming in is a serious buyer who will buy if the right goods at the right price is offered.
They don''t have the extra staff to do otherwise.
That is part of the reason they can keep prices low.

Ah, I get it. Now I know what''s going on. The thing is, I''d like the bf to know what he''s buying without him feeling he has to buy on the spot. So I guess we''ll go looking at B&M places first to introduce him. I do like WF''s cuts, I have my wish list, but I have to respect what he says, since he''s buying :)

Side note:

Georgey, my real name is more complicated than Grace and Americans have a difficult time pronouncing it, hence Gracie.

It''s a classic pitch...shop elsewhere first, and then come here to buy...but it may work well in this case.

More background for your side note.

Good hunting!

Okay, I gotcha Ira. I have to admit that show is before my time :)

Soo...I guess we''ll have to do our best with the shopping. I will keep the board posted on what develops and provide pics as soon as I have it!

Cheers,
G
