I am looking at getting my girlfriend a radiant for her engagement ring, and man have I ever learned a lot reading this board! I thought I knew a fair amount about diamonds before, boy was I wrong!

Anyway, I think I can select the stone now, but I am not sure how to handle the setting. My girlfriend likes settings with engraving, and she likes white gold. I have thought about platinum, but I ran across some info stating that getting a platinum ring resized and/or replacing prongs is very difficult. Is this true? If I was to get an engraved ring, would the engraving stand up, or would it wear down after a few years? Here are some examples of settings she has found attractive:

First ring
Second ring
Third ring

So, would those hold up?

Last, how secure is something like the Whiteflash w-prong setting for a radiant? Would I need to worry about the stone coming loose?

Hmm I don''t know about the engraving issue but my ering is platinum and they had to replace the head on it and all, and it wasn''t a problem. Keep in mind platinum will still scratch (you can get it cleaned up and buffed though) but it''s stronger. I wear white gold a lot. In fact most of my jewelry is white gold and i''ve never had a problem with any of it.....and a lot of them I wear quite often. Personally however I just like the idea that my wedding set is plat. I am *quite* clumsy and have accidentally wacked my rings a few times and something in me just feels secure that "my precious" is snugly situated in 6 prongs of such a strong metal!

BTW....those styles she likes are my absolute FAVORITES! Are you going to try and get one of those specifically? Or just that general style?

The ring I plan to have made for her wil be a 3-stone ring with a radiant center. For the sides, I am going to try to get half-moons, but if I cannot find nice ones I will go for pears or trapezoids. The radiant should be slightly rectangular, say a 1.3 ratio, with the long axis of the stone perpendicular to the ring. I''d like to go with the engraving, but I want to be sure that it won''t look bad in a few years after it has had some wear.
