Hi,

I have some questions about engagement ring settings.

1. Is there a commonly agreed setting that is the most secure/durable? e.g. 4 prong, 6 prong even 3 prong, channel setting, )

2. Is it better to expose more of side of the diamond itself ?

I have seen a "channel setting" (See below)which looks cool (see link), but I wonder if it's as secure.

It looks cool from top, but both sides are covered up.

Also, will it affect the sparkles or brightness since light cannot enter from the sides....

Thanks.

I think you're mistaken with the terminology. What you have shown in your link is not a channel setting, it is called a tension setting, although this one isn't completely tension because it has a cup on the bottom. They can be secure, but they have to be done RIGHT and the right diamond must be selected for it. You need to work with someone skilled to make sure it's done right.

I would think for sure that the most protective setting is a bezel, followed with a 6 prong.
