Hey Guys-

After months of looking at every ring imaginable, I think I''m pretty in love with this WF Diamonds for an Eternity setting. http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/Diamonds-for-an-Eternity_998.htm

Now, I need some advise-- Throughout my shopping, I''ve always wanted a princess cut diamond. Now that I like this setting, I''m leaning towards the round.

As the most indecisive person you will ever meet... I need some help here! What do you guys think about a princess cut in this setting? Would it be totally out of place or is just a matter of taste? Have you seen this combo before? Please share your thoughts...

Also, any help with stone suggestions? I''d really like to aim for 2 carats, but trying to keep the budget around 10k...So, i''m aiming for an H, eyeclean SI2... saw these...

Any suggestions/ advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi gem456,

I''m pretty sure I''ve seen someone do a princess stone on the eternity setting but can''t recall where the picture is. I''d just keep the stones in the setting small like 2 or 3 pointers. You might also email WF to see if they have any pictures of someone''s ring that they''ve done like that. I think the one I saw was made by them so there''s a good chance they''d have a picture.

Gem welcome

See what Belle or Julie come up with as suggestions for you, they will be here later on.

Regarding the round you posted, firstly there isn't enough info to tell if it is a good cut. Also it is an EGL cert, you may have read that in some cases EGL are said to be softer on grading than GIA and AGS . Besides depth and table we need crown and pavillion angles to help with cut quality. This diamond is also a 'virtual stone' which means Whiteflash would have to call it in and I am not sure on their policy with EGL diamonds, except that they aren't eligable for trade in.

Unfortunately I really doubt that you will be able to get a good 2 ct even with those specs for $10k, this size diamond is highly desirable and not many stones available for all who want them. I don't know enough about Princess Cuts to help you as I am not keen on the cut, but like I say Julie will be along later to help or Miss Belle. Make sure you get the best cut diamond you possibly can, your colour and clarity requirements are good, maybe you could lower the colour a tad more if you are agreeable if you get a round, to an I or J, this will broaden your options.

I LOVE the setting you chose, as a round girl that is what I would think best, but a Princess might look good, I prefer the continuing sparkle of all rounds though!

Personal taste I think.

Best of luck!

ETA - just had a quick look for you, this diamond is in budget but smaller than you want at about 1.54 cts...

I don't know how flexible the budget is, but this one almost hits 1.7 cts at $11,685

hey, gem

i replied to the other thread about what I thought.

a round will cost you more, but it will spread bigger. I don''t think you can get 2 ct for 10K, sorry. I think 1.5-1.75 cts, depending on color and clarity.

Thanks guys... I appreciate your feedback!

I would totally be happy with a 1.75 as well, the 2ct is just my *ultimate* (if we some reason find an awesome deal) goal! I would love even bigger, but being on the younger side of soon-to-be-engaged couples, I will have to wait for the first upgrade! ;)

Again, all advice greatly appreciated!

i think a round will look much better in that setting than a princess. if you are totally in love with the ring and feel comfortable making a decision based just on that, go with the round. it will be very classy and elegant...never out of style.

Have to agree with everyone else, after going through a long drawn-out process of trying to find the right diamond, I''d say you probably won''t get a quality 2 carat diamond for $10K. I''d step down a little in size and at least get an SI1 stone that was fairly eye clean. WF was very helpful in trying to narrow down a few stones I had chosen based on their personal observation.

As far as that setting goes, I think it would look much nicer with a round than a princess.

that one's not so hot. see the white on the right side? It's by no means an ugly diamond, though.

Oh, i see the white you''re talking about Julie. I would have never noticed that if you didn''t point it out!

Do you think that bit of white is worth going up to an E color rather than the H one that Lorelei pointed out? Or would the color difference be negligable in comparison to that?

H is very white.

Thanks Rod. So price considered, I should definately go for the J or K as opposed to the H so save a couple thousand? Also, keeping in mind, that I am setting this in the WF diamonds for an eternity setting... this won''t cause too much contrast betweeen the band and stone will it?

Anyone else have an opinion?

Thanks so much guys!

That''s not necessarily what I''m saying. What I am saying is the two stones you referred to are absolutely beautifully cut. They are ACA''s from Whiteflash, which means they are the creme de la creme of cuts and even though the color is a little higher, they will face up so white because of the exceptional cut. Now, if you are color sensitive, it''s possible from the side or upside down, there might be a hint of warmth (which many PS''er like, BTW), but in most real life situations what you''ll really have is a stone that will outsparkle most anything you''ll see. And no, I don''t think there will an issue with contrast between the band and the stone.

Good luck and do keep us posted.........

I had that WF diamonds-for-an-eternity style setting (only in semi-eternity style). My center stone was (is) a gorgeous 2.36 ct J-color and it looked GREAT with the small melee side stones. So don''t worry about that!

Beautiful setting.

To answer your original question, I would not personally place a princess in that diamonds for an eternity setting. I think it is perfect for a round and it seems like you have several good options. I would put a princess in a band with princesses. I''m sure WF could make one for you, or also check out the settings at signedpieces.com!

Thanks so much everyone... I think we''re either going to go with the above J or K stones...

I''ll keep you updated! :)

Thanks Julie. Are you trying to hint at discouraging the J or K?

I''m considering it because I''ve seen many J/K stones from WF posted on here that face up unbelievably white. Also, its an ACA so with such a good cut, I thought it would be ok.

Let me know

I think my boyfriend is calling WF today to discuss the above stones with him.

no, I'm trying to provide a really different alternative. It's a different color and it's /not/ an ACA.

I have the Whiteflash Diamonds for an Eternity and a J color ACA from Whiteflash. I don''t notice any contrast between the band and the center stone. Here are some pics.
Good luck deciding!

Thanks everyone.

Lorelei- what do you think of this one?

http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-821291.htm#

Looks similar to the one you suggested, but I''m not sure if I''m missing something.
Not keen on that one Gem, I prefer the one I posted! Besides the white on the side, the proportions don''t quite fall into my preferred range, but it still could be a lovely diamond - just not my preference. Also would you prefer an E colour?

With the Eternity setting - how at risk are the diamonds at the bottom of the ring from damage?

I''m figuring that''s were a lot of hitting goes on... when working around a desk or driving, etc...

Anybody have a clue?

I really think you need to look at diamond color in person (in NATURAL light) before making a decision. E to K is a VERY wide range. You will see a tint in a K. G-J is the near colorless range and you are a little safer to stay in that range. There are a few people on here with beautiful K''s, but it is easy to see the tint in those in the pictures. However, some people prefer a diamond that is not white, so it all depends on personal preference. My preference is G-H, but I''d consider a great I color diamond.

Any more J and K pics out there???

Please post!

Try this thread J diamonds in Platinum to see some examples, also do a search for Mrs Jam's scrummy K and Seven's One's K. ETA - Mrs Jams is the first diamond in the thread and Seven's lovely K is probably there too.

But....seeing these diamonds on a computer monitor is really not the best way to see if they are for you. Best thing would be to go and see some in person, preferably graded by GIA so you are seeing a properly graded J and K to see if they appeal. Many J and K diamonds face up very white, with some blue flourescence even better IMO, but would they be white enough for you? Try to take a look in person and see.

awesome thats perfect Lorelei! Thanks so much.

I have actually looked at some J/K stones, but they were not as well cut as the ACA''s I am considering, so I think that creates a totally different appearance.

I will definately go look at some this weekend, I think I will be ok with a slight color to it though. From some of the pics, i like the "warmness" of it... and also, the price (especially the K posted above) would be perfect for our budget right now. We''re on the young side and probably spending more than we should be already!

Plus... theres always room for upgrades
