Question with pictures (Black Circle in diamond after set?)

Re: Question with pictures (Black Circle in diamond after se

I assume this is what you're referring to?

This stone has a shallow(er) crown and a steep(er) pavilion, long(er) LGFs, and low(er) optical symmetry. The black circle outlining the table reflection is the same pattern as the "ring of triangles" you'll see in MRBs with high optical symmetry (obstruction resulting from reflection of the star facets), only the ring you see is less symmetric and more chaotic. Perfectly normal, nothing to do with the setting.

Yes it is what I am referring too. I am just confused because I did not noticed it the first time in person. How does that impact light performance.

How dos the black ring impact light performance?
It doesn't. This artifact results from the way the proportions work together, and has no impact on light return on its own.

How do the proportions that create the black ring impact light performance?
That question is the reason these fora exist, and the GOG introduction page I linked is an excellent place to start.

It was always there but very possible that you just noticed it - that tends to happen when you take a stone home to stare at ::) As you get to know your stone you'll no doubt find other things you didn't notice before, too.

What would be a good value to buy a Diamond of this quality?

Re: Question with pictures (Black Circle in diamond after se

Let's eschew the games - how much did you pay?

It's not a "bad quality" diamond by any means. Longer LGF than PS boutique vendors aim for, but that doesn't mean it's of "poor make".

I just noticed a dreadful typo in my first response - shallow(er) crown should be "steep(er) crown". The 34/41 combo is steeper than many 60/60s demand for optimal light return ("optimal" being a very subjective judgment using light reflector technology).

7k

I think i am overthinking it. I cant even notice it unless I use the 10x scope or with a camera. I still have the option to return it if I like.

34/41 actual angles is one of my favorite combos for a 60/60 and is very well balanced.
Even with the gia rounding it should be fine.
The proportions with the long 85% lgf% does create the darker ring, with a 80% lgf it would not.
At normal viewing distances it is not a issue.

btw your diamond needs a good cleaning.

Ahh - and an anecdotal argument for the "2 week rule" mentioned in other threads...

lol, I was thinking the same thing.
Not that I was surprised because it happens often.

So what impact does this have on the stone as far as fire, and light performance. Will the only impact be when I look with loupe. I am trying to decide if I want to return the stone.

View it in many light conditions and if you love it something you see only in a loupe is not something I would return it for, but is it mind clean to you?
It is a bit different than the norm but looks like a nice diamond.

Put another way I am not seeing anything that says to me tell you to return it if you love it.
