Question regarding trading up?

Not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this, but I''m just trying to get a general idea on what I can expect. I have a pair of 1/2 carat studs and also a 1/2 carat stone that was in my mother''s original engagement right. I don''t have the stats on any of the three stones. I am considering trading all three stones for a new pair of studs and I''m just wondering what I could expect to get in trade for them for a new pair of studs.

Reselling can be a challenge as can trading in diamonds to a seller where you didn''t originally buy them. Expect to get 30 - 50% of what you originally paid if the stones have a lab grading report such as GIA, less if they don''t have a report.

IMO, you are better off keeping the stones from your mom and just buy a new pair of studs.
