Hello

I have a question on prong tips. Im having a setting made and i keep noticing little differences in settings. Right now im on the prong tip and i how it connects or rolls over the diamond. How would i convey to the jeweler that i want the tips to look like the attached photo? Is it called roll over or clawed. I know i dont want it to be round and bulbous. I like how this photo looks. Also, the setting is being made right now and the photo they sent me makes the prongs look round and sticking straight up. Im assuming they can shape these to my liking when theyre setting the diamond. Thanks for everyones help

I think that pictures is an example of fishtail pave. Someone correct me if I''m wrong!

Im asking about the prong tip for the center stone and how it hold the diamond in place. I like how it looks.

Youre correct though, it is fishtail pave

is there a way to send the picture to the jewelry and say that''s what you''d like?
i personally can''t tell if they are claw prongs or not from that picture. maybe more experienced ps''ers can. it''s best to see them from above to tell. claw prongs are just that, they are like little claws, or points. so, the metal folds over and makes a point instead of a circle.

if you don''t want bubbly prongs, you can ask them to shave them down. that''s what i did for my setting. they look much more delicate that way, but they aren''t claw prongs.

Hello!

From what you''ve described in the picture the jeweller sent you, it sounds like you might have been sent a CAD drawing (computer generated image) of what the ring will look like?

In a lot of the CAD images I have seen on here, the prongs on the ring are not shown as they will appear in the finished piece, but are shown as cylinder-shaped, sticking straight up, around the diamond. If this is the case then don''t worry!

I would ask the jeweller for claw prongs, and if possible show him a photo of how you would like them to look.

From what you have asked in describing the picture (which I believe is Lynn B's set), it seems you're referring more to the way the prongs are sitting on the diamond then the actual tips? This just relates to good morkmanship and finish, and also assures the diamond is secure.
Lynn B's set has "regular", not claw prongs I believe. It is from WF, pic here http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/The--Legato--with-Micro-Pave_1071.htm

Sadly, not all jewellers can make great prongs, but I think jcrow's suggestion of showing the image to the jeweller is your safest bet. These things can easily get lost in translation.
I also second what Cleo said, is it a cad you are concerned about?

Here is the PS tutorial on prong settings http://engagementrings.pricescope.com/prong.asp
