After speaking with Bill yesterday he thought the best thing would be to have the stone shipped directly to Sholdt designs in Seattle.
I''m fine with that.
My question is, if i ship insured with USPS it can take up to 15 days to get there. This is according to the C.S. rep I spoke with.

I then called Jewelers Mutual and they said that my stone is insured for shipping so while additional insurance is recommended, it isn''t necessary.

Using USPS can delay having it set for up to 2 weeks and since it''s already going to take 4-6, I''m not too thrilled with waiting any longer but it''s also extra insurance and some peace of mind. Even though waiting up to 15 days to see if it''s delivered would be horrible on my nerves.
Fedex is overnight and the chances of them losing the package is pretty slim. Should I chance it?

What would you guys do?

Fedex shipped my diamond, no problem whatsoever.

I''d pay the extra and overnight it. 15 days would just be too much for me, plus you can''t track on the USPS website so you just have to sit and wait and wait and wait. The extra $ is worth it for the peace of mind IMO.

fed ex doesn't provide insurance though

edite to add: USPS doesn't have an overnight option.

If JM says your stone is insured while shipping what difference does it make?

I agree, if your stone is already insured (even during shipping), then I would fedex it. The USPS option, while safe, is super-slow and as mrssalvo said, without tracking, can be quite nerve-racking!

Good luck! I''m excited for your new setting. Love that Sholdt semi-bezel!

Only because I work with insurance companies and they deny claims all the time saying some other party is responsible. But I guess since they *did* say it was covered, I shouldn''t worry.

Thanks Cutey. I bet you can''t wait til you have yours on you finger!! only a little whilte longer!! :)

I''d probably get them to fax you something in writing saything that they will cover it if it''s lost during shipping. just keep a paper trail. If you are really, really worried about it just go with USPS.

Is this true? I''m pretty sure Fedex insured my diamond when they shipped min.

I think FedEx is the way to go too but if you are still worried, and want to exhaust all your options, why not call and ask Sholdt if they have a FedEx account, they have to ship the ring back somehow too. If they do maybe they can provide you with a label which I am pretty sure is insured. This is how I did it through WF because they needed my stone asap. Also, USPS can overnight registered mail but the insurance only goes up to $5000. and it does not get tracked until it arrives. That isn''t the safest way to go.

I know, i know, I sound paranoid. Only because while the whole diamond and setting buying experience is supposed to be fun, mine was nothing short of one problem after the other.
Between looking for a stone forever (before I finally posted the one i got) then finding my setting locally, only to find out I was getting ripped off, to having a problem with the store refunding my money (won''t know for sure until Saturday), I just don''t know if I should take any chances. The odds of nothing going wrong aren''t in my favor.. lol.
Just can''t wait until the whole thing is done.

I would ship Fed EX and get it in writing from your insurance co that it is insured and covered during shipping...

Is this true? I''m pretty sure Fedex insured my diamond when they shipped min.

FedEx shipped mine with $50,000 of insurance, although I think that this is something that you''d have to make a special arrangement for. Good luck!!

Quest just recently overnighted my partially finished setting to me, through UPS. And when I sent it back, it was with a label Quest emailed me, that had insurance included, and it was overnight.

I recently shipped two different rings from Seattle to the East Coast, USPS registered mail. Both times my packages arrived within 5 days.

USPS does offer express shipping, which is overnight to most areas. I would pay the extra to overnight it, either with USPS or Fedex.

USPS offers an express service that’s overnight to most US addresses and 2 days to everywhere else. JM covers merchandise while it's in USPS care. Call them up and check to be sure that this applies to your particular policy but you should be able to overnight it using USPS using your existing JM insurance with no troubles and no additional charges beyond the postage. The loss rate in USPS overnight mail is extremely low. Pack it carefully and always several layers deep with the recipient’s address on each layer inside.

They do, but if insurance is wanted, it's minimal. (only up to 5000.00)

I am resetting my recut Aqua. Don't know when it will make its debut.

Yes, but I just want to say again that it does NOT get tracked through the process or changing of hands. When I spoke to the PO about this the clerk said that while my stone would be covered he really didn't recommend it for packages like this.

Yay! Hope you get it soon!

Hi elle chris,

I also ordered the my FI''s setting from Sholdt (what piece are you getting, by the way? :)) Anyway, what my jeweler did was send all of the stones measurements to Sholdt and Sholdt then made the setting, shipped the setting to the jeweler, and the jeweler then set the stone. This way the stone stayed in a vault instead of in the air. I felt confident with this way of getting the setting and stone matched up, and it worked out great. Just a thought.

Yeah, forgot, that too. I personally wouldn''t do it.

Thank you, me too!

Gatro, and Bem231- I just got back from Fedex (just to pick up the boxes) I asked about ins. and was told up to $500. She told me to speak to the Co. I was shipping it to because if the company has an account with FedEx, the ins. is different and can cover my shipment.

DiamondDiana- I just got off the phone with USPS again, they''re adamant about no "express, overnight" shipping for my package. What 777_LDY said

Denverappraiser- Jewelers Mutual said FedEx was ok. gonna call back later to find out yet again.

Brilyant- I was told that Sholdt sets it. This was by the original store I wanted to buy the ring from, and Pearlmans so I''m a bit surprised youre jeweler is setting it.

ImpatientOne- 5 days isn''t bad, but they can''t guarantee it so I''d rather do it overnight and not worry.

Ellen, mrssalvo,krisvrm- I''m going to talk to Bill again in a little while and see what he has to say about insurance for shipping. Hoping either Pearlmans or Sholdt will let me use their account. I have no problem paying an extra fee to either of them.

chris elle - I thought so as well, but my jeweler wanted to set it, so I thought that was fine. If you trust your jeweler to set it, by all means go ahead and ask them to - it should not be a problem.

It''s very nice to have a local trusted jeweler :) which one are you getting? I''m getting the 408. It the bigger version of the Vashon R415-15P

Also just got off the phone with Bill, he said send it USPS and it should take about 5 days. About to call Jewelers Mutual again to get something in writing from them for covering FedEx.

That''s good to know - thanks! Mine was shipped through Leon''s company account, which explains the difference in insurance policies with FedEx. Good luck!!

Ah, very cool! I got the R382-1PD in the Fremont collection. Here''s a link the the thread I made about it: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/its-done.80022/

I recently shipped my 3 rings with a total value of $16K by USPS. It was registered mail (which covered up to $25K, I believe).
I shipped it late on a Wednesday and they arrived on Monday. The total price was under $40.
Through Fex Ex or DHL, I was quoted several hundred for shipping.

Hope that helps!

I believe if you ask for "Priority Registered Mail", you can have delivery within 3 days with USPS and still have up to $25K insurance. Standard registered mail is really slow, but adding a couple buckis for "Priority" makes it a lot faster.... Check it out rather than take my word for it. I wouldn''t want you to be dissappointed.

If you have Jewelers Mutual insurance coverage, they probably will allow you to ship it USPS Overnight Express Mail, double boxed, without even taking any extra insurance coverage. Be sure from JM if this applies to you.
