Question on setting diamond

Thanks to what I learned on this forum I purchased a diamond. Now I have a question regarding setting it. Is there a certain position the stone should be set in a 6 prong head? For example, should the arrows be aligned in a certain way in relation to the prongs and the ring itself? I looked at several pics on here and some stones are set so the arrows are aligned with the ring and some are not. Are there any considerations to keep in mind when setting the stone?

There is no accepted norm in this regard. The symmetry of a standard round is 8-fold, so it does not meet up with 6 prongs anyway in some perfect union. I doubt anyone will notice how the arrows are aligned. A well cut diamond is so sparkly, that one can''t see the alignment in bright lighting.

I always taught my guys to line up the arrows with the compass points as it sits on the finger but, as Dave says, there’s no consensus on this. There are times when other considerations come up as well, like if you want to avoid covering a girdle inscription or you are trying to hide something underneath a prong.

Thanks for the input. There is no inscription on the girdle so that is not a consideration. Is it a lot more work if I request that the diamond is set like it is in the attached picture? Would I be asking too much if I wanted it set this way, so that the prongs sit between the arrows?

I actually like them set like that and I would ask the same thing

My RB H&A is set like that, and being a tad OCD, that''s the way I wanted them. I think it looks really neat and perfect. I believe if you are going that extra mile to get a stone with visible arrows in a perfect H&A pattern, you should take the care to line them up pretty. Except of course, as denverappraiser noted, you are trying to hide something or not cover up an inscription.

I asked WF to set my stone with arrows lined up... a little OCD but I want to take close up pics of the arrows and it will drive me crazy if they don''t line up! If you want it done that way, just ask. They are probably used to PS crazies
