My girlfriend and I looked at this Tacori setting over the weekend and she absolutely loves it. She loves the style, the minimal halo, everything.

Before seeing this setting, she was more interested in square diamonds (cushion or radiant). Part of the attraction to her (in my opinion at least) is that this setting makes the round diamond appear squarish.

The description on the Tacori website that I linked says that it can facilitate oval, emerald, or princess center stones in addition to the RB that is shown. What about a cushion cut, would that work?

Also, how do y''all think a cushion would look in that setting?

I like the RB in it, but it may begin to creep out of my budget to purchase a RB instead of a cushion.

Also, I''m looking to put a 2 carat center stone in the setting.

I think a cushion would look great in that setting, but whether it could be done, you would need to ask your Tacori retailer/ setter. Do you know for sure which shape diamond your GF wants?

Honestly, I don''t think she''s sure. She had always said she liked the look of square cuts better, but with this setting squaring off the edges of the RB like it does, I think she might like the RB in it. Also, for example, she''s commented that she really liked Tiffani Novo ring, which is a square cushion.

One problem for me with the RB is the price begins to climb. My target spending amount is about $15K. I met with a private jeweler in Charlotte 2 weeks ago and he had an eye clean GIA H SI1 radiant that he was going to set in a bit simpler setting than the one above for $14,200. I think the diamond alone was around $12,700. He wholesales diamonds and offers them privately as well at a great price.

For a RB, it''s probably going to be a couple thousand more (or am I off?). With the more expensive Tacori setting (probably around $3K), we''re starting to get pretty expensive.

That''s why I was hoping a cushion would work. It''s a diamond style I know she likes, plus I think it would look great in that setting. I would hate to buy the diamond though without seeing one in that setting.

Thanks for the response Lorelie and any help is much appreciated!

I think a cushion would look great too. My guess is tacori could easily make it for a cushion since they will for a round, emerald or princess but best to talk to a retailer to be sure.

Just received an email from my private jeweler and he thinks a cushion would work, but that I should go with a RB.

He recommended a GIA I SI1 for $14,500. Does that sound reasonable? An I might be a bit too warm for me though, so I''ll have to see it in person. Although, the RB is supposed to hide color better.

It appears as I have to start all over on my search for a diamond. I had researched the heck out of square cuts, but don''t know that much about RBs.

Why don''t you email tacori? They usually email back rather quickly. If your girlfriend likes cushions then I would not give up on that idea. I have the tacori setting that you posted with an emerald cut. Keep in mind that depending on the size of the stone your budget for this setting is proabably going to increase. I can'' remember right now what my fiance said but I know that we paid extra for a setting to fit our diamond as the regular settings are made for slightly smaller stones. I''m not sure what the cut off is though and my stone is 2.75ct.

RB''s are nice and there is at least two people on ps that have that setting if you want to see what real life pictures look like. I think the pictures on the website make the settings look different than they do IRL.

The last thing that I wanted to mention is that if you get a well cut stone you shouldn''t be able to see any color with a stone in this setting. Stones are color graded from the bottom up so you probably won''t see it since the basket totally hides the bottom of the stone. I have a J and I''ve had it for over a month and stare at it every day. I''ve tried to find the color but I can not. I was worried that I would at first but now the thought doesn''t even cross my mind. Just some food for thought, don''t pass up an I without looking at it first.

Hello. My Tacori is designed for a RB and they made it to fit my EC with NO problems and NO extra cost. We bought my setting from the Karat Patch (since you are in Charlotte you are probably know them). Good luck! I think it will be lovely.

Thanks for the responses! They were very helpful.

Sounds like I can put a cushion in that setting, but I will email Tacori to be sure.

The next question is, which would look better in that setting, a RB or a cushion?

Do you happen to know who the other posters are who have that ring? I would really like to see the in-person pictures. I viewed the ring a a jewelery store on King St. in Charleston, but like most Tacori''s in a store, it was set with a CZ (1.5 carat). Good news is one of my best friend''s family owns the store, so I should be able to get a good deal on the setting through them.

That''s reassuring about the color as well if I do go with the RB. I think a G-H color might be just outside of my price range.

.

I think both would look lovely. If your gal wants a cushion, i''d choose the cushion. I just love cushions in cushion shaped halo''s.

I think both shapes will work on this setting as well. Personally I will favor the cushion...

I favor the cushion too, although both would work.
