First, I would like to thank everyone for all of the knowledge that is shared on this forum. I have been a longtime reader and finally have the courage to post with a question.

I know that diamonds are best purchased when they can be seen in person but unfortunately I do not have the ability to see the diamond. This is further complicated by the fact that I am purchasing an oval diamond. The jeweler has been very helpful in guiding me through the process and sent me a 20X magnified picture of the stone which I have included here. I know that you have to see the diamond in person to know about the bowtie effect but I would welcome any of your thoughts on the diamond specs:

Oval brilliant
Carat: 2.11
Cut: Excellent (but I dont know how you can know this as it is not mentioned on the GIA cert)
Color: D
Clarity: SI1
Table: 55%
Depth: 58%
Measurements: 10.40 x 7.39 x 4.25
L/W ratio: 1.41

Polish: Very good
Symmetry: Good

First of all, fancy shapes (i.e. ovals, cushions, etc.) don't have cut grades?? Can you post another photo or two? What is he asking for the stone? If you buy it, see it in person and hate it, can you return it for a full refund (minus shipping costs)? If the answer to that question is "no" I'd find a new jeweler. Many of the PS vendors will ship stones for your inspection if you pay for shipping. That's totally worth it in my opinion to get to choose a stone based on MY eyes!

Ovals have to be bought with the eyes. It's good that you got a photo. GIA doesn't grade ovals for cut, so it's not an excellent cut. Also that bowtie looks pretty prominent, and that's a deal breaker for me.

I don't know what your budget is, but this one is lovely.

These are both lovely. And the ASET images show bright stones with great light return.

What is an ASET image? It's an image taken with through ASET scope that shows you how well the diamond is returning light. Please read this: http://www.ideal-scope.com/1.using_ASET_scope.asp

If you are going to be buying a 2 carat oval on the net, I would highly recommend working with a vendor that can provide you with ASET images.
And videos.

Good Old Gold, the vendor that sells both the stones I linked to, makes videos for people upon request.
