Hey everyone, i just got my diamond and have a post-purchase question

I just got my diamond (http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4088/ ) from GOG, and took it to a local jeweler which i have been working with.

He seemed to have 2 concerns with the stone. One was the carbon near the center and the other was the feather. It took him a while to see the feather, as it was outlined on the AGS report, but once he did he was concerned that it was close to the top surface.

Are these things a big deal that I should be concerned about. The stone is eye-clean, and we were looking through the loupe at these inclusions.

Is anyone concerned from looking at the AGS cert?

Thanks!

When you take a diamond purchased from elsewhere to a local jeweler (opposed to a true, independent appraiser/only place) you are setting yourself up for the barrage of BS in trying to make you feel bad about your purchase so they can try and take you in as a customer.

So I would take their comments with a grain of salt and vet out the source and reasoning for the comments.

I''ll bet you $100,000 to $1 that if the local jeweler had sold you the diamond you are talking about they would be singing the praises of your choice and patting you on the back for being so smart....and raking in a helluva lot more money as an excuse for being a local jeweler.

from what i''ve read, large feathers are only of concern if they break the surface and/or are near the edge of the girdle. the feather in your stone in in the middle of your diamond. so as far as I know (my amateur opinion) its nothing to worry about. Sometimes if it''s very large and extends most of the length of the stone it can be an issue too but this one seems pretty small. take it to a proper appraiser and see what they say. i''ll bet my money that it''ll be just fine.

How many AGS Ideal stones does you jeweler stock?

What is his concern about the carbon dots? They are mapped out on the GOG website so they are easy to locate. Same with the feather, the feather he could barely find. The stone's grading (and price) reflect the inclusions.

If it concerns you maybe a trade-up in in order with a higher clarity. GOG has several VS1's and VS2's. But my guess is you have a beautiful stone that's been hand picked by GOG and a jealous local jeweler.

Ditto - he is probably talking BS to get you to return the stone and purchase from him - we see it a lot here

If you are still concerned, have an INDEPENDENT appraiser (ie. not another jeweller) take a look at the stone and give you his/her thoughts. Do not be swayed by this jeweller. GOG sells great quality stones, I truly wouldn''t be worried.
