Is there an established rule or even a rough guideline for what the Crown Height % should be for a Princess Diamond when the Table % is equal to or lower that the Depth % ???

Does a larger Crown Height necissarily render better light return?

Is there a Crown Height % that is, in most circumstances, too LOW and will hinder the Princess Diamond''s overall sparkle and fire??

Thanks in advane for any help and advise.

You can reasonably use the AGA cut class rules for screening princess cuts, but the world is about to change in terms of grading the light behavior of diamonds versus grading by parameters. Getting a light performance grade will be more useful than parameters. Certain minimal parameters will continue to apply, but crown height won''t be an important criteria. Depth % is generally related to visual size, but it is not the best way to make that judgement. We will shortly offer reports with traditional depth % , but also include the visual area of the crown. This will be a far better measure of visual size. Depth alone will mean far less. Table size is another measure which soon will mean virtually nothing. Right now, it still counts, but soon performance of a diamond will surpass the table % measure.

I think you can tell, the business is in a change mode.

David,

Thanks for the reply and information. What online diamond sites offer diamonds with light performace testing/certificates? I''ve seen superbcert.com, but that''s it. Are there others?

Also, traditionally speaking, what would say about this Princess Diamond just looking at the states:

Princess, F, SI1 (100% eyeclean), table 70, depth 70.5, Ex/Ex, No culet, No Fl., 6.51x6.51x4.59, medium girdle, Crown Height estimated at 6 to 7%. PRICE TAG = $9,600.00. Is it a good buy?

Thanks.
