Question for Strm (or anybody) about Asschers

Just curious as to why girdles on asschers/square emeralds tend to be on the thick side?

durability and weight retention and tradition.

Oh, so do the cutters cut the stone wanting for it to have a thick girdle? For some reason I always thought thicker girdles were a product of the cut itself--I didn''t realize that it was an objective.

they can be cut with any girdle but med or better is a good idea for durability.
