Question for Monarch

Monarch,
You had mentioned cream of tartar as a remedy for canker sores in an old thread. I am miserable and get them frequently. Can you tell me do you make a paste of it or apply it dry and how long do you leave it on? Thanks!

You got my attention, I hate those things!!! I just searched and she said the just applied it as is to the sore. She said it stung at first, but she swore by it! I''m gonna have to remember this one!!! Good luck! I feel your pain!

I am going to try some of these other remedies too. I am beyond miserable with these things. It is like getting a continuous shot of novocaine.

Hi,

I get them too and am not sure of the exact cause, but it seems they don't show up as frequently if I make a point washing my mouth out w/water 3 seperate times after brushing my teeth. I'm not sure what makes them go away, but look forward to hearing what heals them

Allisonfaye, I never made a paste of the stuff, I just sort of sprinkle a bit directly onto the canker sore itself, and although it stings at first, it gradually becomes numb. It always seemed to make them heal faster. It''s been a while since I''ve had one, and now with my braces I just use wax when I have abrasions inside my mouth.

I think rinsing your mouth with warm saltwater does absolute wonders as well...it tastes disgusting but it really does speed along the healing process, imo.

I used to get them all the time but I found a really good solution. If you take L-Lysine, an essential amino acid, as soon as you notice a sore starting the sore never develops. It doesn''t work once it has taken hold but since I discovered it I have saved myself so much pain.

I am going to go over to Whole Foods and get some of this since many people mentioned this same thing. I hope it works. I had like 5 sores once right when we went on vacation and I didn''t have a good time because of the darn things.
