the jeweler knew instantly that my diamond was an "oec" by quickly seeing it from a distance on my finger. How is this possible?
It is not a true european cut - the table is larger and closer to a modern rb. it's a transtnl.

My question is: :read:
How can u tell a transltl from a modern rb?

More to the point, he probably recognized that it wasn't a modern round brillant cut. If you look at the many pictures here of rbs and compare your stone in terms of faceting, you could readily discern that for yourself as well.

Your stone is beautiful but it's facets are chunkier - much different than today's modern round brilliant cut.

I can tell from a look. And your setting is also a give away. It's an antique gorgeous setting.
