I would like to hear from anyone in Australia who has sent their diamond from Australia to the US to be set in a new setting.
Did you have to pay 10% GST to Aust Customs for the value of the ring setting (excluding value of your diamond) and shipping OR for the value of the ring setting (including value of your diamond) and shipping?
I rang customs a few weeks ago and was advised that if I sent a diamond over to be set in a new ring setting that I would be charged GST on the whole value of the ring (ring setting, diamond & shipping) as it becomes a 'new' ring.
Susimoo recently sent a diamond over to Victor Canera and she said she was only charged GST on the setting and shipping
So I thought I'd put the question out there to see what others have been charged by Customs.
