I recently bought a diamond from bluenile were my brother and a few friends of the family have done as well and with great results.

I have had great results as well. I am about to ask my girlfriend the big question and I think from reading these boards about the "sparkle or fire of the diamond"

I will link the GIA report specs

Cut: Very Good / Round

Color: G

Clarity: VVS2

also I did an HCA report and got these results

however I am nervous I am not getting the sparkle I want out of it. I set it in an 18k white gold 4 prong setting. It''s a rose bud / tulip style setting however when I open it I just feel its not like it was. I know the lighting at the stores where you get these from is optimal. However if I take it outsite or I bring it in to work it does sparkle. I just ever since I have gotten this ring I have been sizing up everyone else ring and even though I havent seen the ring I bought in similar settings I am just nervous.

I know not all rings sparkle all the time. I just want to make sure I got a good deal. I paid 2650 for the diamond and then I got it set seperately.

the diamond looks beautiful and clear with no color. I am just wondering if for some reason I am being paranoid about the sparkle or I should take it in to the get it recertified again.

Any feedback would be really appreciated. Maybe later tonight I can take a picture of it and post it. I just want everything to be perfect just like every guy does.
 
I am sure it is fine Nipper, can you post the crown and pavilion angles you used on the HCA please?

Ok, the proportions look fine, I know some like slightly longer lower girdle facets with this angle combo but I think it should be a good looking diamond.

A question - if you have been handling the diamond a lot particularly are you are it is spotlessly clean? Diamonds are grease magnets, it could be the diamond has got a little oily, a good cleaning might help.
 
It shouldn''t be that dirty it has pretty much stayed in the box since I purchased it. I have shown it to a few people with a couple taking it out of the box.

However for the most part I am basing all of this off of my room where I keep the ring. The room just has a a light that is covered. When I brought it into work it def sparked. I am new to this whole process and am just nervous. All girls want a diamond to sparkle and shine and I just want hers to do the same cause she deserves it.

I will get it cleaned I guess before leaving for the our trip when I plan to ask. I really appreciate your alls help I just am paranoid. I need to stop basing the perfomance of the diamond based upon the only place it has been staying I guess.

I meant why GIA graded it only as VG in cut when the numbers are good, should be in their excellent range. Weird.

Because of the very thin girdle notation this diamond received VG for cut grade.
 
Take it outside or look at it in an elevator, etc.
 
I really want to thank you guys for responding as quickly as you all have. I have read a ton of posts before actually posting on here and Stone and Lorelei. I have been a nervous wreck about this whole entire process and quick advice and help just puts me to ease.

I think it''s just funny how they make the diamonds look absolutely perfect when it comes to lighting at the jewelry stores but some I am beginning to notice its not very realistic.

Thats the bottom line, jewellery store lights ARE deceptive. You have a well cut diamond there and I am sure your lady will be delighted!
 
I was curious what difference does the girdle make ?

I know you posted :

This can really be personal preference with the lower girdle facets so nothing to worry about. For further reading try this page, scroll down to lower girdle facets to learn more. There really isn't an ' ideal' percentage for these as various combos can work well, more important is to consider the diamond as a whole and its overall proportions - and yours are fine!

shorter lower girdle facets will result in broader arrows, larger virtual facets, resulting in broader flashes of light but less lively.

So it is mainly personal preferences. Also, with GIA rounding, it is quite a large range on values to actually make any real guess on how it actually is. Best to see an IS image.
