I am brand spanking new to posting here but have read so much...I can''t tear myself away!

I would like to know about the cut adviser tool. Am I correct in understanding that unless I contact a vendor for more info, I won''t be able to use the tool since GIA reports don''t give all the info on the stone - namely crown angle and pavilion angle? Or am I missing something?

Hi MD,

You can plug in the rounded C&P angles GIA lists to get an idea. But yes, to get the full picture, you''d need the actual numbers.

Thank you. :)

Ellen I think you're taking it to the next level...possibly.

MonkeyDog,

Most contemporary GIA certs, for a while now...do supply this info. Possibly the confusion is where the info is. You have to go look at their little drawing, and see it on there...but since maybe (?) early 06 they've included this on certs...along with a cut grade, also not previously on their certs.

Ellen's making a finer point. A small number of vendors, many of these featured here, also have apparatus to double check GIA's reporting of this data, and you might find this helpful...though in a thread a while ago, JulieN ran the numbers and thought by her "back of the envelope" approach that even GIA's reported rounded data, in a worst case, was not too bad for applying the HCA.
