Hi everyone,

I''m about to pull the trigger on this 1.44 G VS2 (HCA: 0.6).

I have a couple questions about it. What do you think of the shorter depth on this one? HCA says it''s great but I''m not really sure what the implications are for shorter depth diamonds. Second, in the picture the tips of the "arrows" appear to be washed out somewhat. Is this just a lighting issue or does it have to do with the cut? I''m having an IS image sent before I purchase and I''ll post that here. Any other thoughts on this diamond are much appreciated.

It looks very promising, the Idealscope image will be helpful when you get it. The proportions are borderline shallow, check with the vendor whether the diamond darkens visibly at close scrutiny due to head obstruction, if not then thats fine. The diamond looks very good so I doubt this would be a problem and I am probably being over cautious with this angle combo, but best to check just to be on the safe side.

The depth is only a hair shallow so I wouldn't worry about that. The lighter arrows in places are a result of the photography etc, nothing to worry about.

Ditto on enquiring about head shadow. Also make sure it has good scintillation.

Here''s a smaller view.

Thank you both for your comments. Regarding head obstruction, is that something I should consider a deal-breaker? Also, is it something that will show up in an idealscope image or will I need someone to actually inspect it?

Thanks!

I wouldn't say a deal breaker, unless the intended will view the ring very closely (and it would bother them), or it's very evident in the stone. You won't see it in an IS, have the vendor visually inspect it. I would give more concern to the scintillation/sparkle of it. Sometimes stones that lean toward a shallower side can suffer a bit on that, and have more of a glassy look. But each stone needs to be assessed on an individual basis, you can't go just by the numbers.

And you're welcome!
