Hi Everyone
I have a question about the ''availability'' of baguettes.
I guess in a roundabout kind of way, I am trying to work out whether it would be difficult for a jeweller to obtain 8 baguette stones for a setting?
My back story is that I chose a loose cushion cut stone (I am in Australia). We decided to have it set in a thin band that is covered in baguettes. The setting will look something like this (see attachment - I hope it works). If that doesn''t work, maybe the link will: http://www.charlesrose.com.au/index.php?p=des&cpos=4 (it is described as No. 8 under "engagement" designs.)
Anyway, we ordered the ring over 9 weeks ago now. We were told that it would take "a few" weeks to source the right baguettes for the setting (presumably in the same colour range and of course thickness to suit the band) and then another couple of weeks to make the ring.
My boyfriend called the jeweller about 4 weeks ago (so about 5 weeks into the process) and was told "we still don''t have the baguettes".
He is going to be calling them again today to find out what is going on
I was just wondering whether I have under-estimated the availability of baguettes and how easy it is to locate a similar "range" of them for a setting. I honestly didn''t think they were that rare or difficult to source (even "Down Under") that it would be taking so long to find suitable ones for a setting. That makes me wonder whether there is some other hold up that they are not being entirely honest about, but I''d be surprised as they are a very reputable jeweller in my city.
Has anyone else had a slow experience because of hold ups with band/setting stones?!!
Looking forward to some honest/dependable PS responses!!
